My sister and I were on the Elegant Elbe cruise that left from Berlin and traveled to Prague. We picked this cruise (and a river cruise in general) for a couple of reasons: -The fact we'd only have to completely unpack once -That the ships docked right in town, so easy access to sites -That it included a lot of ports that we were interested in seeing The problems were told to us as soon as we got on the boat in Magdeburg (by our outstanding, wonderful Program Director, Radim): the Elbe was too shallow and we couldn't go anywhere at least for the first night. However, it ended up being 4 days. (We were told flat out by our travel agent and Viking staff while booking that river levels were very occasionally problematic. So while we were not completely surprised that this happened, we were bummed that it actually did!) So for the first 4 days we would load up on the (very nice, comfortable) coaches and be bused to the ports that we were supposed to visit, and then be returned to the bus by coach at the end. This wasn't ideal, because some of the bus rides were long and, frankly no one signed up for a coach tour, but we still got to see a lot of what we were supposed to. After 4 days we finally were able to get moving (lots of rain in the Czech Republic that finally flowed down the river to us). Unfortunately, we had to make up time somewhere so we had to skip our time at Litomerice, which disappointed me because I was interested in going to Terezin. However, we got to Prague on time and were able to enjoy this beautiful city! Sailing was so quiet and calm that if you weren't looking out a window that you might no know you were moving. The scenes we passed were pretty pastoral ones, several people fishing and camping on the Elbe. We passed very few other ships near our size, though we did pass at least one other river cruise, another Viking vessel. Positives: -The service was amazing. The staff went out of their way to help you with anything that you could need or want, all with a smile and a great attitude. We loved everyone on board. Program Director Radim was always gracious, helpful, and seemed to be unflappable even as he dealt with this unfortunate water situation. He was the glue the kept the cruise together, we really appreciated all of his efforts. -We booked the lowest stateroom, and were thrilled to see how well appointed and comfortable it was. The window was much bigger than we had anticipated, which was a happy surprise! -The food was consistently delicious as was the wine. -This was only the 9th sailing of the boat, and it still had the new boat smell! Loved it! I would definitely do a Viking cruise again. The wonderful staff and boat helped make this trip enjoyable, even if it wasn't exactly as we had planned.

Cruise did not go as planned, but Viking staff worked hard to improve it.

My sister and I were on the Elegant Elbe cruise that left from Berlin and traveled to Prague.

We picked this cruise (and a river cruise in general) for a couple of reasons:

-The fact we'd only have to completely unpack once

-That the ships docked right in town, so easy access to sites

-That it included a lot of ports that we were interested in seeing

The problems were told to us as soon as we got on the boat in Magdeburg (by our outstanding, wonderful Program Director, Radim): the Elbe was too shallow and we couldn't go anywhere at least for the first night. However, it ended up being 4 days. (We were told flat out by our travel agent and Viking staff while booking that river levels were very occasionally problematic.
