This was the first cruise for both my wife and I, so we have no other similar experiences to compare other than land only trips to San Juan. We are a married couple in our early 50's from Texas.

We arrived in San Juan early morning on Saturday and was granted an early check in a no extra charge at The Condado Lagoon Villas at The Caribe Hilton, which was just a short 5 minute ride to the cruise terminal in Old San Juan. this is very nice place to stay for a night or a week, which we have done several times.

Day One - Sunday - Embarkation in San Juan

Balcony

Cabin 8E

Great view from balcony, enough storage space for two adults. You can feel the ship pitch and roll more due to the forward and high location. Fortunately I was able to counteract that effect with the transdermal patch for motion sickness. Just the right distant from main forward elevators. Quick hop one deck down to Lido pool, food and fun. Spa level one deck up and Serenity deck is two decks up.

Port Reviews

San Juan

Try to arrive a few days early if possible as there are many different activities to be done in and around the island. Zip line at Tora Alta, beaches all over the island, El humane rain forest, the radio telescope at Areciebo, the caves of Camuy. See Culebra and Vieques islands, bio bay tours where the water glows blue at night when disturbed.

Barbados

Took a cab ride to The Boatyard. Nice beach, calm clear water. Chair included with shade for $15 which includes cab ride back to ship. Some motor sports available from third part vendors. Minimal harassment from vendors.

St. Maarten

Took a shared cab to Maho beach. Went to Sunset Bar & Grill, rented 2 loungers and umbrella for $20. Beach was rocky and severely slanted. Water was basically clear, waves were 3 feet. Watched planes arrive and buzz overhead by 30 feet! Wow!
