This trip did not get off to the best of starts, as we managed to miss the flght from Heathrow to Budapest (due to traffic jams).
But even at this stage, we had excellent service from Scenic, who managed to find space on a flight later in the day (at extra cost of course), and booked that for us, including rebooking the return leg from Munich (automatically cancelled when we failed to show for the outbound leg), and arranging for a pick up from the airport. So we actually arrived in Budapest at midnight, where we were duly met and transferred to the ship, getting on board at 1:00AM - we weer offered food if we wanted, but by that time just wanted bed.
After that, the cruise went pretty well to plan. The tour director, Patrick, was excellent, keeping us all fully informed about upcoming activities and excursions, and always being ready to help out or answer questions. He really mae the cruise something special.
I have never been on any other cruise, river or ocean, so don't really have anythig to compare with so far as size etc.
We had a balcony suite on the middle deck. It seemed pretty spacious for something which has to fit a riverboat. A large double bed (Queen size I think) with very comfortable mattress, and a choice of pillows.
Plenty of closet space, both hanging and shelves, plus a minibar (topped up daily if you used it) and safe in the closet.
The bathroom consisted of a very good shower room, washing basin and toilet (which flushed using the vacuum system as on airplanes).
We had a full balcony, with a pair of chairs and a small table. This had a vertical sliding window so that you could close it up in case of bad weather, or to keep the insects out. There was a folding glass door between it and teh main cabin, but we never closed that.
Unlike many hotels I have stayed at, the lighting in the room was entirely suitable for reading, and even teh balcony lights provided enough light to read by if you wanted to sit, rather than ;ying on teh bed to read. There were also numerous power outlets (mainly European, but with a couple that I think were Australian style)
