I took my children and grandchildren on the liberty of the Seas for a 9 night Bermuda and Caribbean cruise. I have cruised loyaly with Royal for the past 12 years approx 25 cruises. About 3 years ago I started seeing their standards lowering and on this cruise it really showed. Of course we still had a nice trip but it wasn't the fabulous trip of years past. Let me start by saing the ship is clean and beautiful. The staff was friendly but not as friendly as years past. Now to the bad things. I prefer the windjammer buffet but the food was nothing short of terrible. Two nights I could not find anything I liked and one night ate only bread. That is hard to do at a buffet. The chef had no creativity what so ever in the menus. I have been on other ships where the buffet was wonderful. We did 3 nights in the main dinning room and didn't do much better there. Service was fine but the same can't be said for the good. Tough prime rib and aged steak was thin as a pancake and tough as well. My soufflé for dessert smelled like a hard boiled egg so couldn't even eat it. I had tortellini which was the only good main dish for all three nights. The shows were another issue. The ice show was great but the main shows were fair to poor. A juggler, magician, singer and a puppeteer. Ooh please can Rccl do better then that. Not even a late night comic this trip. The day time activities were also lacking and found many hours at sea with nothing to do. Now let's get to the day at st maarten. They were so unorganized that people were lined up in the theatre and up two floors of steps for over 1 hour making every tour approx 1-1/2 late even though we got cleared in port20 minutes early. All of this to get a sticker and for them to scan for towels. Total chaos. In all my years of cruising with Rccl I never saw anything like it. I guess Rccl feels that people will still pay for poor quality food, shows and customer service so why do all the extras that they use to do. I am so very saddened to see this but the writing has been on the wall for the past 3 years. I am only a couple cruises away from being a diamond plus member and as of 3 years ago only had positive things to say. After reading this review with all the negatives from someone that was one of Rccl biggest supporter you have to believe that Rccl is walking down the wrong path and will be losing business from those who know what "real cruising" means and not third rate cruising which they are quickly becoming. Move over carnival Rccl is pulling up along side you in the not to distant future.
Cabin was clean and nice.
