The Breakaway was an amazing ship. We are dedicated Celebrity, Carnival, and Princess cruisers with this being our first Norwegian. We took this cruise for my parent's 50th Anniversary and they chose the ship based on my sister's recommendation.

The ship was so contemporary and beautiful…very different from the other ships we have cruised on. There were so many activities for adults and kids our entire group stayed entertained. The ropes course was quite challenging and very large compared to Carnival Magic's. The plank was fun, but the camera at the end that takes your picture wasn't working so that was a big of a downer. Still we all enjoyed it very much from my 72 yr old Dad to our youngest niece who is 8. To finish the ropes course you can choose to do a zip-line across the ship. That was especially fun! We all got the biggest kick out of that.

The kids enjoyed the pool and slides, but it was much too cold and windy for any of the adults. This was the last week of May. I would assume the weather would be lovely for it later into the summer. The putt-putt course was loads of fun too. Very inventive and well-maintained. Even the arcade had a four person air hockey game we spend way too much money on at $2.50/game, but the whole family got in on the action and had a ball.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BC

Our balcony room felt large and the bathroom was plenty big. The shower was likely the largest we have had on any line and we always cruise Aqua Class on Celebrity. We had a cabin with the angled balcony and it provided so much more space! BEWARE THOUGH, the normal handle does not lock the balcony door like it says it does. There is a separate lock at the top of the balcony door that prevents anyone from on the balcony getting into your room. With the angled balcony, it is very easy to jump the rail from the balcony next door.

The room layout and decor were lovely. Plenty of room for a week cruise and nice storage in the room and the bathroom.

Port Reviews

New York (Manhattan)

I would not recommend Times Square on Memorial Day Saturday or Sunday. The crowds were at a stand still. Reminiscent of what you see on New Year's Eve on TV. Way too many people for comfort or movement.

We saw the Broadway hit Something Rotten and it was far from rotten. Our family enjoyed it very much.

We enjoyed an authentic Italian restaurant just off Time's Square and Broadway called Scarlotto's. It was excellent food, amazing service, and very well priced at around $15-$20 per entree. Most entrees were very large and splittable. I had the Pumpkin Ravioli which was devine, but not large enough to split. Glad I got it all to myself.

Traffic heading to the ship on Sunday was abysmal within the last 1/2 mile of the port. This part took longer than our ride from Queens.
