We were accustomed to Celebrity on several recent cruises but remembered nice ones that had been taken with other 4 RCCL ships. This time because of convenient dates we decided to take this cruise and were not happy we had done so.It started at embarkation in San Diego when our passports were kept by the attendant at check-in with the information that they would be returned aboard. Little did we know at that time that they were being confiscated to be returned only at the very last night of our cruise. We did not receive any plausible justification for that action and were always greeted with certain discomfort at guest relation desk with "legal reasons" excuses. Being deprived of our documents ( the only legal documents to be used on international travelling) generated unnecessary stress during the entire journey as we felt insecure to disembark in foreign ports of call without the necessary identification. Food was very good at Windjammer Buffet, good entrees and desserts and poor main courses at dinner. Our table attendants Constantin and Elena were efficient and served us well. Cost of drinks of any kind, shore excursions, spa treatments , fotos and internet access all had outrageous prices for what was being offered. We found that visits to the bridge, galley and backstage that were free (we took then ,some years ago) became US$150.00 per person "events"!!! Shows were some good (outstanding comedians) some were just regular. The Cruise Director (John Blair) was probably the best one we have seen on our more than a dozen cruises. Last but not least, we understand that the Jewel is going for refurbishing next year and it probably gave everybody a warning sign, when one of the gas turbines was malfunctioning delaying our departure from San Francisco for almost 8 hours.

Disappointment on our return to RCCL
