Viking Ingvar Cruise Review by Hazeleigh
- Sail Date: May 2015
- Destination: Russia River
- Cabin Type: Deluxe Outside Stateroom
The crew were very friendly and always helpful. I was unfortunate to have an accident four days in to the holiday but was attended to extremely well. The stairs between decks can be somewhat precarious.
The food was excellent and plentiful and well presented. As non drinkers we did have to ask for an alternative and think that it could have been offered. The restraunt staff were usually very attentive although we did have a few issues with the male waiters a couple of evenings when they seemed reluctant to serve us with dessert. The young waitresses were charming and attentive special mention of Inna, nothing was too much trouble and she spoke English really well. The chef was great and was always happy to speak to everyone and his cooking demonstration was informative.
Titiana,Natasha and Sasha were really informative at the lectures on all the trips and their sense of humour was delightful. They all worked so hard. The local guides were also excellent and their command of the English language was impressive.
The trips off ship were well organized. We did not enjoy the queue in the rain to enter the Hermitage which was chaotic and so crowded it was dangerous. We did however enjoy most of the other trips especially the home visit in Uglich although having just had breakfast we could not do their food justice. We were not impressed with the visit to Mandrogy because a lot of the shops were empty and there was not a lot to see. It was a shame we were not able to sail into Yaroslavi because of the low river which appears to be an on going problem. The coach ride ti get there was not too horrendous but the absence of a toilet on the coach did become a problem for one of the crew on the trip with us to his embarisment.
The additional trip Moscow by night would have been better if the fumes on the river boat had not been unpleasant and visibility was difficult due to the glass cover. The ride on the Metro was an experience and it would have been nicer to see more of the lovely stations. Full marks to Natasha for not loosing any of us!
The only negatives was the lack of space in the Sky Bar for the lectures etc. We often had to stand outside to hear. We did also think that the cost of the extra trips was excessive especially the one to the Fabergé museum which was disapointing.
I would certainly recommend the trip made enjoyable by the crew and tour guides. That you.
