Embarkation was a breeze and the ship was immaculate. It was about an hour after we boarded that we were able to get into our stateroom, so we used the time to explore a little. When we finally did get to our room, we were very impressed with the size of it (Cat. 11), the amount of drawer and closet space, dressing room, large bathroom with tub and a lovely big balcony. Coffee was the first order of business, and room service was in full operation, so we enjoyed a cup on the balcony before muster, which was prompt and organized.
You can read all the reviews you want about food and activities and ports of call, and may hear a few complaints about little stuff, but I'd like to say that Carnival really stepped up to the plate for me at a time when it mattered. Mid-way through the trip, I received the unfortunate news that my father had died (he was terminal, but we had not expected him to go so soon, obviously, or I would not have gone on the trip). I considered leaving the ship in Belize, but complicated and expensive air routes/fares forced me to stay aboard and finish the trip. It was necessary for me to change the original post-cruise travel plans, the the Purser's desk could NOT have been more kind and helpful, even going to bat for me and throwing their weight around with the airlines (long story). They must have alerted crew members that were directly involved with me (steward, dining server) as I was treated with the utmost care and sympathy. I really, really appreciated it.
So...was it a fantastic cruise? Well, considering the circumstances, no - it wasn't, although my partner and I made the bast of a bad situation. Would I sail with Carnival again? ABSOLUTELY. Food was good/adequate, entertainment was fun, ports of call were amazing.
