We have been on many cruises on various lines (20-25+? / we've lost track) including quite a few on Carnival. We are usually skeptical of ‘bad reviews’ and often ignore some of the complaints as ‘unreasonable expectations’. That said; we were very disappointed about much of this cruise and especially so with the lack of hygiene and staff training.
We try to make the best of every situation and expect that some things will go wrong but we can no longer ignore how much has gone downhill at Carnival in the past few years. If you haven't booked this yet...you should think twice about choosing another line and/or ship. In the past 3-4 years, we have noticed a decline in the overall quality. Too many things to discuss them all and of course, some things are subjective. So in this review, my focus is on the lack of hygiene and staff training for which there is no acceptable excuse.
Our stateroom was a ‘connecting’ cabin (which we did not request) and DH didn’t like that we could hear every conversation next door so he tried to change cabins but none were available. Guest Services assured him that there was a method to ‘seal’ the door to block sound and we should ask the cabin steward. Our cabin steward had no clue about this and Housekeeping had no clue so we suggested that they should inform Guest Services so they wouldn’t continue to give out incorrect information. Eventually, Guest Services contacted us and they ‘informed’ housekeeping which in turn put masking tape around the door. Although we did appreciate the effort, masking tape isn’t really effective soundproofing and the entire issue was frustrating and a waste of everyone’s time. Clearly, a lack training and communication between departments is in effect.
FILTHY!!! Spacious and well appointed but hard to get past the filth.
