Just returned from a 10 day sailing on RCI Liberty of the Seas. When we booked the cruise our only option was 2 staterooms due to our family size of 5. No other options were available to get us all in one stateroom. We were sold connecting staterooms, 1 having a king bed and the other having a king bed and sleeper sofa. To our surprise, upon getting to our staterooms, neither had a sleeper sofa, just two king beds. There were two bunk beds that dropped from the ceiling but both had signs on them that stated "not permitted for use under the age of 6." When I asked where I should have my 4 year old twins to sleep, 1 employee suggested that they sleep on the floor. This really upset my family and I and is totally unacceptable. The manager of customer relations suggested that my wife and I sleep in the bunk beds and have the twins sleep in the king bed. This option was not acceptable nor one we wanted to entertain for 10 nights. Who wants to go on a cruise and sleep in a twin bed? Not us! The major upset was the deception of the RCI staff that booked our vacation. They should have never told us that there was a sleeper sofa in the room. Furthermore, they should never book a stateroom of this class with children under the age of 6. To my surprise, there was another family in line with me with the same issue. They had a room several doors down from us with the same issue. They were told of different sleeping arrangements when they booked the cruise as well. I would have never booked the cruise had I known of the sleeping arrangements. Being our first cruise with RCI I can say we are very unhappy. I have never had this experience on other cruise lines (i.e. NCL). The customer service manager offered us $400 towards a future sailing but we would have had to book and pay for the cruise within the next 3 months. At this point RCI was not in our foreseeable future so we did not take him up on this option.

Overall the cruise was good. The food was good in the dining room and phenomenal in Chops Grill. The entertainment was good but not as great as NCL. The kids program was excellent and comparable to other cruises. The promenade was very nice. Overall a good cruise but upset with the cabin and deception of the RCI sales team.

Cabin K

Small room with king bed that can break into twin beds with 2 drop down bunk beds (not permitted for use under the age of 6).

Port Reviews

King's Wharf

Went to Horseshoe Bay Pink Sand Beach. It was phenomenal! Great beach, wonderful pink sand, nice scenery, and tropical fish. The beach chairs and umbrellas were costly at $11 per chair and umbrella.

Labadee

A cash cow for RCI. The food was mediocre on the island. There was a open air market were locals harassed you to buy stuff from them. There were some nice things to buy but every shop had the same stuff, just with a different price.

Bayonne (Cape Liberty)

Easy port to leave and enter out of. Customs was quick and painless. I would recommend this port to anyone. Literally only took about 30 mins to get through the line and board the ship. On the way off, the line for a porter was extremely long so we opted to carry our own luggage to the curb. Premiere parking was a great value for long term parking.

San Juan

Took a private tour of the island and shopped. Spent $60 for 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children). Great place to visit. So much to do! Beaches are nice, rainforest is awesome. Something for everyone!
