We sailed aboard the Celebrity Summit from Port Liberty, Bayonne, NJ to Kings Warf in Bermuda, the first week of May, 2015. We were shadowed on our journey by the Norwegian Breakaway ship with the same destination. The Summit is a mid-sized older ship that is undergoing some refurbishment. The ship was clean with the exception of the salt covered windows and it was immediately obvious that their intention was to offer a higher level of service than I have experienced on other popular lines.
Our beverage package included unlimited mid-range liquor and we enjoyed it immensely. This was available from 6:00 am when the first bar opened until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning when the last club closed, at any restaurant or lounge aboard. We especially enjoyed Cellar Masters, a premium wine and beer bar with was manned by Toto Kassan the personable and extremely knowledgeable chief sommelier but even this bar was out of the value priced sauvignon blanc, so we still ended up purchasing premium wine.
We dined in the Cosmopolitan Restaurant, the ship’s main dining room and the buffet and were pleasantly surprised by high quality, well prepared food and a large variety of it. The roasts were cooked to perfection and most of the desserts were delicious. Waiter service was very good. We never felt a need to try a premium restaurant.
Our stateroom was spacious and included a queen sized bed, love seat and table, a bathroom with shower, a balcony large enough to seat two and a table. The room had plenty of storage with hangers for clothes, a hair dryer, stocked bar and bath robes. The room attendants were pretty haphazard and did not restock the room with the proper amount of towels, shampoo & conditioner. When we told the lead attendant on the floor he was quick to blame his colleges rather than just taking care of it. They did try to make it up to us by leaving a bottle of champagne and cheese plate in our room that evening.
The last night of the cruise, a pair of chocolates in an unsealed wrapper held closed with a piece of tape was left for us. They just did not seem sanitary enough to eat. I believe having the gratuity included in the price of the trip can lead to sub-par service, although I am not certain that this was the case.
We chartered a local offshore fishing boat. My wife boated 1 wahoo and the mate had 4 pull off before handing over the rod. Didn't try for marlin or tuna. $1100.00 for 4 1/2 hours of bouncing around and not touching the rod was disappointing.
Convenient port to leave from since I live locally. Used a car service since it wasn't much more expensive than parking fees. Nice view of the Statue of Liberty and New York City skyline. Water isn't as clear and pretty as in the islands.
