We have taken five Viking cruises to date and are already signed up the sixth. Rating the trips on we have had on Viking I would rate this the lowest. Usually their cruise run like clock work with never a flaw to find. The pre cruise extension in Luzern was wonderful and they put you up in a great hotel overlooking Lake Luzern. We arrived in Basel to begin our cruise and were not impressed with the docking location, in the middle of recycling complex. Check-in was a breeze and our room was ready when we arrived around noon. The evening another Viking ship, the Sum tied up alongside of us. Their air conditioning exhaust, the width of our room, was immediately adjacent to our veranda. This took away our view that we paid extra for but the worse part was the noise all night long. It was so loud we could not talk to each other. This happened two more times on our trip.

Another item that detracted from the trip were some of the long walks from the ship to get to the excursion buses, at one stop the walk was over 20 minutes from the ship to the bus and the same on the way back to the ship, plus the 40 some odd stairs to climb at the bus location. The excursions were nice but were not organized as in the past. Ten to twenty minutes of free time at most and then one with an hour and 45 minutes on a day that all of the shops were closed due a national holiday plus no fault of theirs it was raining and the buses were no were to be found so everyone got soaked.

In Paris at the end of the trip there must have been three Viking trips in and about Paris at once and they all used the same location for the bus pickup. This made for total confusion and it did not help that the tour guides were actually yelling at people if they got on the wrong bus which happen a number of times.

Cabin Review

Cabin Veranda

The cabin was spacious, just wish other ships did not block your views. There is plenty of storage and the layout was well thought out.

Port Reviews

Basel

Docking in an industrial area is never pleasant and when another ship ties up alongside of your stateroom blocking your veranda view it is downright bad.
