We flew in the day before & stayed at the Best Western in San Pedro. Hotel is nice, surrounding area is busy street/fast food. Had a really good dinner at the Green Onion, a short drive away. BTW, Uber cars are a much shorter wait & 1/2 the price! The hotel had a free shuttle to the port, a 5 min. ride away. Received an email from Princess on Thursday that embarkation would be delayed, but we had a 2:00 check-in time & were on board having lunch at 2:30 pm.
Crown Princess is similar to the Caribbean Princess which we sailed to Canada/New England two years prior. The ship is very nice, 4 pools (1 heated). A beautiful piazza/plaza, very nice theatre, lovely dining rooms. The food was excellent! We had so many wonderful meals (prime rib, fish, lobster tail, mussels, eggplant parmigiana, pasta--just to name a few). The rolls were perfect, the desserts delicious. The service in the dining room was excellent.
My only criticism of Princess concerns Anytime Dining. If you wanted a table for two, you were seated very close to other tables for two & sometimes had to wait 5-10 mins. On Norwegian, we never had to wait & the tables for two were exactly that. We also shared tables for breakfast, lunch & dinner and met some interesting people.
Our cabin was very nice. Princess has a good layout with the bathroom & closet on one side, separate from the bed/desk/chair area. Our cabin steward, Freddie, was friendly, helpful & was quick to clean our room & tidy up. I got frosting on my jacket one day, so I did a load of laundry near our room. Also discovered they have ironing boards in there!
The bed wasn't the most comfortable bed I've slept on, but it was ok. I heard after our week, they were doing some upgrades: new mattresses, carpeting, etc.
