DW and I have only cruised with Royal Caribbean - 25 or so times since 2001 (many of them short 3 nighters). Many times it has been recommended to us that we try out Celebrity, and so we booked this 8 night repositioning cruise from San Juan to Bayonne.

Our first impressions was that it was quite smooth boarding the ship in San Juan. We shared a taxi to the port with another couple who was on the same flight from Orlando. Since there were several flights from Orlando, we flew in the same day. Since we didn't get to the ship until about 1:30 or so, we went to our room and left our carry on luggage before heading up to the Windjammer, er Oceanview Cafe. Overall the ship looked like it was well-maintained.

A few things stood out to us. The food was truly wonderful. As an Aqua Class passenger, we ate in Blu each night. We had the same waiter, Rambo, and he did an outstanding job. For example, the first night, filet mignon was on the menu. It was as good or better than what we have come to expect in Chops. I wanted one another night, and was able to get one by asking the night before. The food in Oceanview was much better than your typical buffet. And things like homemade ice cream, fresh pasta and pizza and several carved meats each day for lunch made it truly wonderful. On RCCI, I always looked forward to eating at Chops, but in Blu never felt like I wanted to be anywhere else.

Cabin Review

Aqua Class

Cabin A2

The cabin was very nice. Though we were under the pool deck we never heard any noise from above. The Aqua Class shower was great, and the mattress was quite comfortable. Our balcony was nice with decent furniture. The only sign of excessive wear was on the couch, where the arm was beat pretty bad. But it was clean and comfortable.

Port Reviews

St. Maarten

St. Maarten was good. We walked both into town and back to the ship. I figured it was one way to counteract all of good food. As noted, the "bus" to get to Maho is a run down minivan. There is a store by the beach where the bus lets you off, that has Absolut for $14.95 US per liter. #Winning

San Juan

As noted, all we did was take a cab from the airport to the ship. Embarkation was easy. For some reason I am to type 150 characters though I don't know why.
