Adventure of the Seas Cruise Review by diplomats
- Sail Date: April 2015
- Destination: Southern Caribbean
Sailed on Adventure in 2012, so we knew what to expect and were not disappointed. Promenade Cafe was great at a place to get some coffee and a snack at any hour, but the attendants for the coffee let us down a couple of morning at 6 am. No Coffee. At that hour, even a short wait of a few minutes can be a bummer, and is unnecessary. Compared to the 24/7 facilities on some other ships, the Promenade Cafe is a bit dark and not terribly inviting, except for its usefulness.
Compared to even some of RCI's smaller ships, Adventure lacks variety in dining options, but Giovanni's is such an excellent experience it is hard to complain.
Except for the Ice Show, which is consistently excellent, entertainment is mediocre. One evening was billed as a display by two champion ballroom dancers, but was primarily just another show by the ship's resident company with two numbers performed by the star team. Most evenings we were exhausted from the excursion of the day and chose to skip the shows, not a positive commentary on the quality.
Alert: should you be assigned Table 282 in Vivaldi, run don't walk to the Maiter 'd and get it changed. This table supposedly for four covers effectively blocks the access to the closer waiters' station and endures constant bumping and jostling by passing waiters with loaded food carts. Yes, food carts. Other than the table location, which the Head Waiters quickly sorted out with a change in table, service in the dining room was excellent. If you happen to get Nilsita and Irma, you are fortunate. Stateroom service was also attentive and pleasant.
The fitness center on Adventure is well equipped and the therapy pool in the fitness area is the best one on the ship, big, hot and well-jetted. Sauna and steam rooms, at least on the men's side, worked well throughout the cruise.
The captain is energetic and makes the daily announcements worth listening to, but on a somewhat intangible way, Adventure seems a bit tired, a comment which applies not only to the ship but more of the crew than we are used to on Royal Caribbean. All this is not to say that a cruise on Adventure is not worthwhile, especially the very port intensive Eastern Caribbean itinerary. We had a great time, on the ship and on shore.
