Our last cruise on Seabourn in may 2014 was our best so far after 36 cruises,on several lines like MSC, Costa, Ncl, Azamara,Celebrity,Seadream,Oceania,Holland America,etc...
They sold it as a "FOOD AND WINE CRUISE"what a joke.
This one was our worst considering PRICE/QUALITY.
There were some good things like every Seabourn fan knows,like the cabin,embarkation etc..
Some pool events were good,and one was excellent.
But:coming on board,simple hello and nothing more,help yourself,no drink,no showing you to the cabin, no nothing.At about 13pm the cabin was not ready, so no problem we went to the pool deck te get some food.A lot of show about nothing,the normal things like on every cheap line with exception of the thinnest and most tastless pizza ever seen on a ship.Note that the world champion of pizza making was on board. So no problem,there still the colonnade to go too.
Had a ordinary lunch whit the cheapest wine they could offer. (they tray it every time )They have one of the best beers of the world ( Duvel ) but they are never offered exept for the intimetys.
If you ask for the Petit Chablis (who's also complimentary) you see them think "he knows" They know your preference, maybe, not about wine. THEIRE PREFERENCE IS THE CHEAPEST.
They spend a lot of time with repeaters what is making the service very slow. The orange juice is half water half juice. The choise of bread is very limited. Most of the time croissants were not obtainable. After a few days i asked for a croissant,the answer was that the demand was so great that they could not follow. They filled the basked with THREE PIECES EVERY TIME. When i made a remark on that the answer in a very rude way that he was not in charge. And from that moment i din"t exist no more for him. I was happy that i could have a croissant twice during the whole cruise. Breakfast menu does not change with exception of one or two cold cuts
The first night we went for The Restaurant.
On the menu two delicious items:Tournedos Rossini for me and Sole for the lady who is a fishlover. Apparently there is a new version of this tournedos WITHOUT fois gras NO truffle and NO mushroom.
This was the well overcooked dry and luke warm version whit a timble of tasteless gravy.
According to the menu,the amorphous little hill on the plate must have been the sole. The presentation was a shame on both of the plates. This mast have been a warning, but i could not believe it.
We have seen the pictures on their brochures and they are not the same, i even think they are not taken on the Sojourn, but on a luxe cruise line. Believe me, whe know how a Tournedos Rossini and a Sole shout look like. Does Chaine des Rotisseurs covers this flag?
Remember this was a "Food and Wine cruise"whit 2 world famous guest chefs aboard!!!!!
Again offering the cheapest wine. We never saw a well dressed plate, so common.
And now the best thing.
Restaurant 2:So named because...well because it is a delihtfully different alternative.....
Had a reservation at 8pm.
First course: lobster tail with something with a beautiful name. The lobster was NOT lobster but langoustine, and that something was macedoine with mayonaise, tenacious and ICE COLD.
They lie about the food, on a other occasion there was fois gras on the menu what i got on the plate was something that looked like fois gras, had the some colour as fois gras, but it dit not tasted and was UNMISTAKABLE NOT FOIS GRAS. Food and wine cruise remember.
Back to Restaurant 2: Second course: Asparagus with egg benedict.Caviar-icecreme!!!!
On every plate there are two items. Tasted the ICE COLD and bitter asparagus and the ICE COLD egg and dit not liked it. There was also an ICE COLD sauce too. Tasted a little ice creme. It was unsavory.
This is the first time EVER that we left a restaurant during a six cours menu in the middle of the second course. Left at about 8.25pm. But no problem, left in a good mood, and went for the collonade, order both an ordinary steak, and waited until 9.30pm. Then the waitress came back with the message that the galey could not follow the demand of steaks becauce there was no demand for the other items on the menu and it could take some time !
9.30pm and no food on a food and wine cruise can you believe it?
Went to bed without food. Thanks Seabourn. By the way they have a very stubborn version of a 1cm thick Chateaubrilland, sever saw before, yes you see some new things on a food and wine cruise. On a simple demand i will send them a picture of a real Chateaubrilland and a proper sole. No thanks.
Next day we saw a chef a told him what happened the day before, he immediately called the chef of restaurant 2 and he the only thing he did was disappear. From the chef of the 2 we got a complimentary sorry. And believe me we were not the only ones.
I can go on but its barely unbelievable that i am talking about Seabourn.
One of the hightlights of the cruise was suppose to be the opera concert whit local tasting in Livorno. Because there were two ships of Seabourn they found nothing better than put all the guests STANDING together in NARROW space. I did not see the stage if there was one, and i can't tell you what the four tenors look like or what they sang, 600 people make a lot of noise even if they just talk, and because they could not see a thing they did, and because they talked you could not hear a thing. The local tasting not hosted by Seabourn was good.
WHAT A EVENT.
First on ODYSSEY in may 2014 and our best ever.
Second on Sojourn in april 2015 and our worst ever.
Price/Quality is not in balance anymore, thanks to Holland America Line?
If so, keep in mind that there other small cruise line with a better price setting and better food. So think twice before you bet your money on Sojourn
Again with Seabourn,maybe (i look forward to the comments on cc ) again with Sojourn certainly not. This is a very personal experience, and hopely not for many others.
Please keep in mind, this is not my mother language, ( mine is Flemish ) and its not always easy to write it in the correct manner, but i did my best.
No negative remarks, everyting was ok.
