Our vacation stated as soon as we got to the Airport at 4:30 AM the day before our cruise left from San Juan. We decided to head down to San Juan and spend the night before our cruise at the Sheraton Old San Juan. I am happy we did this as we did not arrive into San Juan until after 5pm and we when finally arrived at our hotel we found a fantastic delight for we weary travelers. Flying as you all know now is terrible when you are cramped into tiny seats for hours and then layovers in Atlanta that are keeping you in very hot areas with the furnace in the airport just pouring out the heat. Many of the people on our flight got so warm they went into the restrooms and changed into shorts and t-shirts. Our hotel was fantastic we got upgraded to a wonderful top floor suite that overlooked the port area and we could see our ship first thing on Saturday morning! That got us very excited. I did play in the hotel casino the night before and was fortunate to win enough in my slot machine to pay for the hotel room and our dinner on Friday night! That told me a hint that this cruise was going to be wonderful! Because we were so tired from the airports and the packed airplanes we took to San Juan we just ate in their hamburger restaurant in the hotel and it was very good!

Saturday we took our cab over to the ship and boarded at 11:30 am with no problems. We simply just walked on and were treated like we were special. We went immediately to get our coke passes and then onto the Windjammer for lunch! The Windjammer was actually very good and I do not remember my last trip on the Navigator as being as good as the Serenade Windjammer experience. We actually ate in the Windjammer quite a bit. I found my service in the Reflections dining room to be superb. I was able to get a table for two by a window for my husband and I and it was quite a wonderful way to go I might add!

I was not impressed with the food though in Reflections it was just average and the portions are smaller. The seafood entrees were not as spectacular as the Navigator was for some reason. The desserts are nothing special anymore! That is something that RCCL needs to do a better job at in my opinion. My waiter was outstanding and so was the asst. waiter. I can state that I will always remember the Head Waiter of our ship. Papa Eric as the staff call him is the best head waiter I have ever seen anywhere! He worked every table every night! We ate at Portofino's and Chops and they were OUTSTANDING! I can hardly wait until I am on the Radiance of the Seas in June of 09 heading to Alaska so that I can go back to both restaurants again. They spoiled us for a lifetime!

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D1

1068 cabin on the Serenade of the Seas is midship on the 10th floor. It was wonderful for convenience to the elevators and stariwells. We both felt that the mattresses are getting worn down and not as comfortable as they should be. Also, they need to put more pillows in the closet for people who need an additional pillow for their beds.
