Just back from 7 days on the Oasis - here's my review. I am 54 and traveled with a friend & about 4 other couples who we cruise with once a year. We flew into Orlando and rented a car from Alamo (40.00) and drove the 3 1/2 hours to FLL and stayed in a comfort in cruise port on Stirling. 125.00 a night - would not stay in the hotel again - old, not worth the price. Chose it because it was close to the cruise port & had a free breakfast but the place was in need of updating (fridge actually missing from the space in the room, outdated etc.- breakfast space very crowded with no where to sit. Now about the cruise - Amazing embark - quick - so quick that the rest of my group were on the ship having lunch & drinks before I even returned from dropping the rental car off. Best & quickest of any of my 8 previous cruises. Gorgeous ship - lots of space, lots to do - we had a 12 floor aft balcony 12724. Lovely cabin, we have only sailed royal once but we were happy with the cabin.

We went to the show "Cats" - excellent, the water shows, the comedian, the ice show & the piano bar and quest. Royal does an amazing job with the shows - better than Princess or Carnival. Our issues were mostly to do with service & procedure the dining room. We had anytime 0r my time dining - and this normally works best for us but not on this ship. We arrived most nights between 5:30 & 6pm and always had a long wait in line - even when we got to the front they often seated us off to the side because they said they didn't have room for our party of 6. Twice we were ushered up to another dining room. Menawhile there was anohther line of people who apparently had My time dining but made reservations. They got right in while we waited sometimes 45 min to get in. After the first night we attempted to make reservations but they either didn't answer the phone or when we got through they said the only times available were 7:30pm. We had previously made reservations for shows so that time was way too late for us so we went each time & stood in line - very frustrating - what is the point of my time dining if you have to make reservations? We - and the 80 other people in line every night wondered why they filled up with reservations - so much for my time dining. Twice we were seated in the table right by the door - in fact right in the middle between the two entrance doors - terrible tables where people were constantly walking by on either side coming & going. We only had two nights of really good service. There were a couple nights where one or two of us received the wrong meal - including one in our party that celiac's required a special meal - this was such a potentially dangerous error that the head waiter spent the next 3 nights falling all over us attempting to make it up to us - but all in all the service in the dining room was not what we would expect. I am not very adventurous and ate salmon each night - it was good - not spectacular - but presentation & taste was nice. Everyone was friendly but we did not feel the food was as good as carnival or princess and we missed the fun of the dining room on a carnival.

We stopped at three ports, Nassau - wandered around the down town a bit then headed back to the ship. St Thomas - took a cab to Emerald Beach - paid 7.00 per chair, shopped a bit at the pier. St Maarten - our favorite port - took the water taxi to the beach right by the downtown - paid 20.00 for two chairs with umbrellas, and this included 6 beers or two fruity drinks as well & access to restrooms - great deal - we shopped then went back to find our chairs and beer ready for us - quite a deal! We all loved St Maarten & make sure you visit a tiny little place called "Juggies Place" - listed as the smallest bar anywhere - you can sit down with the owner & have a beer and there is a little gift shop where you can purchase t shirts or adorable little bottles of flavored rum perfect for gifts to bring home!

Port Reviews

St. Thomas

Our group took a cab (4.00 per person) to Emerald beach - rented chairs 7.00 each - there was a bar/food on the beach with bathroom & changing facilities - nice beach a 10 min cab ride away.

St. Maarten

Loved this - water taxi 7.00, close beach, chair rental 20 for 2 including drinks! shopped downtown - don't waste your time getting the free stuff - it is junk! & Juggies place (smallest bar) was the best!! - favorite port!

Nassau

Tons of shopping here but every store has same thing. Felt relatively safe at the shopping but have been told this port is one you really have to watch your back on so we just poked around then went back to ship.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

love fort lauderdale but don't stay at comfort inn & suites cruiseport south - run down & way overpriced with a poor breakfast - would not stay there again
