I love Cruising...It is an awesome way to vacation, I have cruised before on Carnival and absolutely loved it, but now I have two little girls, my oldest is 4 and my youngest is 18 months. My husband and I decided Disney Cruise would be perfect for the children. It was a beautiful ship and the service was 5 star, however, there were several aspects of it that I was not pleased with and it did seem extremely overpriced, I don't feel we got too much extra for the extra money we spent to take a Disney Cruise. First, our cabin was not what I expected, I thought there would be more colorful, Disney decor, perhaps a little bit bigger, it was tiny and the decor was a bland navy blue, there weren't fun pictures on the walls like I had hoped for the sake of my girls. The cabin was far from a Dream. Next, I was under the impression the characters would be walking around the ship, that was not the case, you had to wait in line to meet a character and the lines got very long. To meet a Disney Princess you had to get a ticket and every time we tried they were sold out, that was very frustrating. The character interaction was not what I was hoping for...I was hoping to see them a lot more often and it showed Tinkerbell in the video which my daughter was most excited for and we didn't see her one time on the ship, I don't believe there was even an opportunity to see her. I really didn't like that our dinner time was scheduled for 8:15 and our girls' bed time is at 8:30. It was nice for them because they got to stay up, but bad for us because they were tired and cranky at dinner. I also was frustrated that my girls could not be babysat together, My 4 year old is extremely timid around others and wanted to be with her baby sister, needless to say we only got to use the babysitting one time and not for long. Not to mention we would have loved to get in the kiddie pool at least once but my youngest was not allowed in because she's in diapers, not even in a little swimmers, she could only play in Nemo's Reef which was only open until 6:00 p.m., so about the time you were getting back on board from Port, it was closing. However, I don't know if that was a gigantic loss being that the pools were always packed full of people, there would be no way you could swim, maybe stand in spot, but don't stretch your arms. Now soda pop was included in the price of the cruise, but I love Coca-Cola and there's was horrible, it tasted more like soda water than anything and a can of Coke was $2. The drinks weren't the only thing that wasn't tasty, the food was not good. It was very bland, and although there were a lot of choices, nothing was much better. The buffet area was always so packed you could hardly move, let alone comfortably enjoy your food. The first night on the ship we just thought we'd get pizza, since the girls were too tired to go to a dinner. The pizza was closed, (not a terrible thing because when i did get pizza, it was like a hard tortilla shell with a splash of sauce, cheese and pepperoni.) the only thing they had were burgers, hot dogs and chicken tenders, none of which were good. By time you sat down to eat it, it was already cold, hard, just bad. Also, the food was not open 24 hours, which is one of the things I enjoyed so much about Carnival. Now onto the Port adventures, Bahamas was nice, we went to the Blue Lagoon Beach and it was amazing, it wasn't packed, it was beautiful, it was pricey but it was the most enjoyable part of the cruise for me. Castaway Cay, although sooooo beautiful, was a let down. We used the babysitting during this time, put my youngest in the nursery and my 4 year old in Scuttle's Cove. My husband and I had planned to parasail (something I have done twice before, but was new to him.) Let me just start with the guy did not know what he was doing, the other boat for parasail pulled away and we were sitting there with one man who almost seemed as though he was going to drive and spot, he kept waving to other guys to help him and it took him a while to get one, they kept waving as if to tell him to just go. Then we were only in the air for 2 minutes, and never straight up, as he was in a constant turn the whole time. $200 for 2 minutes, please! Not to mention I did not feel comfortable at all. At the end they went to pull the parachute back in and it went straight under the boat, so we were left a sitting duck while they're diving off the boat trying to untangle it from the propeller. Take it from a water sport fanatic, it wasn't just bad, it was awful! Castaway Cay was packed and we only ever got to see one side of the island because we had too much stuff to carry with us everywhere. Plus, you're not on Port for nearly enough time to get the full experience of everything. Now...with the better parts of the cruise. The service was excellent, our waiter and waitress were amazing. We loved them so much. They spent extra special time with our girls, our waitress made our daughter an origami flower when she was sad. They were great. Then the shows were awesome, we were able to keep our youngest behaved and the acting was great and very entertaining. We loved the shows. Both of our daughters ended up getting sick though, not sure from what, our youngest was sick the last day of the cruise and then our other daughter got sick the day we got off. I don't know if it was the heat, the motion of the ship, or something they picked up from someone else on board. But overall, it was a nice experience. I don't think I would pick a Disney cruise again just because the price was not worth it. I enjoyed Carnival just as much in most aspects and even better in some, and it was half the cost.
