My husband and I travelled 2 weeks ago on the Ventura & had a fab cruise itinery wise but oh dear what a difference from when we previously used this ship some 6yrs ago. The refurbished ship was a pleasant surprise but nearly everything else apart from our cabin & East restaurant was quite a shock.Allow me to share our somewhat strange experiences. Why but why is it necessary to wipe your seat with a cloth that has just been used to wipe the table? I saw this happen 3 times during the same sitting whilst my husband left his seat to get us both some drinks then a dessert & then a knife for cheese & biscuits.I got so exasperated with this nonsense I asked the member of staff to stop doing this to which he just laughed at me then proceeded to do this at another table. Another unpleasant observation I made was staff transferring different food varieties onto the same platter as a result making the choice look unappealing. I was hoping to have a slice of Pate but not with some remnants of the crust part of some other food item slopped on top of it We cannot change those people who leave the crust on the serving plate but the staff ought not to put the leftovers onto a different platter containing a different food type. One more quibble was the dismissive attitude to requests We asked about the possibility of changing from Freedom dining to Club Dining . We did not receive an answer at any point in the cruise. We found the Freedom Dining so stressful & disorganised we abandoned this & ended up taking our Evening Meals in the Lido Restaurant which had a good spread each night in a much calmer ambience & on 3 occasions at East which was superb.Incidentally we spoke with other people who were on Club Dining who would have preferred to be on Freedom Dining who were told the alternative was to eat at the Lido Restaurant at night Poor hygiene was rife in general despite the availability of Hand Gel.Then of course people complained of illnesses & of course even those with good hygiene standards became unwell at some point We did enjoy our cruise and I could go on complaining more but I.'ve said enough to hopefully give others including the P&O staff an insight into some incidents which spoil some peoples holiday
