This was the 7th cruise for my husband and myself and the 4th for our 11 year old son. We have sailed Carnival and Holland America. We arrived in Tampa the day before our cruise left (a must if you travel from a state where weather may cause travel difficulties)and stayed with relatives. The Tampa airport was very efficient and we had our luggage in less than 10 minutes after arriving at the baggage claim. We traveled on NorthWest Airlines and had a flawless trip. It's the first time in a while we arrived on time. The port of Tampa was small compared to the Fort Lauderdale Port where we usually port from. It was orderly and there was good traffic control and direction. We had an easy embarkment. We arrived around 12:30 and were on the ship in 30 minutes. We weren't able to get into our room until 1:30 so we headed off to the Lido for lunch. The food on the ship was excellent! We heard others complain, but we were satisfied. My son had shrimp cocktail for supper every night. There was a good variety of food with good presentation and flavor. You MUST try the Chocolate Melting Cake with ice cream for dessert. We had it every night and it was incredible!!! Our only food complaint was the soft serve ice cream was ice milk and not very tasteful! The service in the dining room was exceptional. We did the open seating dining that allowed us to dine anytime between 5:45pm and 9:30. We loved the flexibility and found some really great wait staff. I would recommend giving it a try. We usually ate around 6 and never had to wait. The decor of the ship was surprisingly tasteful and elegant. All of the other Carnival ships we'd been on were exploding with neon colors, obnoxious carpet, and cheap decorations. This wasn't the case on the Legend. Be sure to visit the Enchanted Forest! It was pretty cool! Our cabin Steward did a nice job. He had to hate it when we brought half the beach back with us. Our room was always immaculately clean. Our only complaint was his timing. He always wanted to come when we were in the room. I know it would be hard to figure out when to come when we didn't have a set dining time so we cut him some slack! The hot tubs and pools were COLD so we didn't partake in many poolside activities. We were also annoyed by being constantly asked if we wanted a drink while poolside. The weather on the trip was not the greatest (nothing anyone but Mother Nature could change). It was cloudy and overcast, but still in the upper 70's lower 80's. Coming from 10 degree weather in Iowa we managed to tough it out. Our first port was Grand Cayman. It was a beautiful Island. We went snorkeling and to Stingray City. This was an awesome experience and I'd recommend it to all. We booked our excursion through Moby Dick. We booked ourselves to get away from the cruise ship crowds. We were disappointed that there were still 49 people on the excursion. We were dropped off at Seven Mile Beach after the excursion which was absolutely beautiful! We walked from the beach to the cruise ship which was longer than we thought it'd be. I'd recommend a taxi to return to the ship. Our next stop was Cozumel Mexico. We went snorkeling with Eagle Ray Divers. We had a great time. There were only 7 of us on this excursion. We booked it through Shoretrips.com. The water was getting rough from the weather, but the guides did their best to make it an enjoyable trip. The only thing I didn't like was having to jump from the boat to enter the water. I prefer a ladder or platform entry. Our next stop was Belize. We again snorkeled and the water was rough. We booked through Cool Breeze tours and there were only 9 of us on this trip. Belize sits on the second largest barrier reef in the world so if you like to snorkel or dive you MUST do it in Belize. THe coral was magnificent. We stopped in Caye Caulker Belize for lunch and I must say this was the picture perfect Caribbean island. It's something you'd see on a postcard. Beautiful colors, palm trees, beaches, birds etc. We had a great time. Or last stop was Isla Roatan. This was a very dirty, poor, third world island. We went to Paya Bay resort for a day trip. Again the weather was crummy so we didn't get to enjoy it to the fullest. It was a beautiful resort and we can't wait to visit it again for a week. Do be warned that it's on the other side of the island and takes an hour to get to. They served us an awesome lobster lunch and had beautiful beaches. The driving on Roatan was very scary so close your eyes and hold on!! THe entertainment on the ship was pretty poor. The dancers/singers were the worst we've seen and the comedians were only marginally funny. The cruise director was very plain and not funny! The activities were also the same as all the other Carnival ships we'd been on. Overall we had a great trip and were pleasantly surprised by our Carnival cruise. I would recommend the ship, and especially the itinerary. We had a wonderful time!
