We cruised before with Norwegian on the Sun and had a great experience. Our recent cruise on the Getaway was a huge disappointment. The ship itself is giant and offers a lot with one big problem - it is entirely too crowded and understaffed. The housekeepers were great, but aside from that the service was disappointing. The deck areas in the day were always loud (with poorly programmed music) and extremely crowded. This ship has more guests and fewer staff than most ships out there. It is very poorly executed by Norwegian. Staff did not know what they were talking about and told us many things that were simply not true. Check-in took 2 hours and they got our rooms wrong. The entertainment was not up to par (except for the excellent Illusionarium that you had to pay extra for - we did and we loved it but the rest was disappointing and largely inappropriate for children). It was clear on this ship that all Norwegian was concerned with was fitting as many paying people on the boat as possible and getting them to buy as many extra services as possible. This cruise had good ports but Norwegian seems to have lost its concern for the on-boat experience and service. The Guest Service folks were unable or unwilling to help when problems arose. The Atrium and Guest services area is so loud you could barely talk with them. It was not uncommon for meal service in any of the 3 main dining rooms to take 2-3 hours with 30 minute waits between courses of the meal and serves simply disappearing and at times never returning. At one meal we had 4 different people that finally after 2.5 hours got us our meal. Long story short this cruise was a huge disappointment and Norwegian seems to have little concern as they are cashing in on the appeal of a big boat without concern for the actual on-board experience. Goodbye Norwegian! Sail on with someone else. There are too many good cruise options out there to sail the Getaway again (the name isn't true).
