We just returned from the December 7th sailing on the Solstice. For us, the destination was the ship, as we had visited the ports of call on this itinerary many times. I have sailed on over two dozen different cruise ships over the past six years and I must say that Solstice is the most visually beautiful ship I have been on, including the Queen Mary 2. We booked an Aqua Class cabin, #1598, at a very attractive price, which got even better when a last minute Senior's discount was instated last month. Celebrity graciously refunded the difference to us, even after full payment had been made. Kudos to Celebrity for this liberal pricing protection.

Embarkation was among the best I have encountered. Since we live locally in Fort Lauderdale, friends dropped us off at the Port just after Noon and we were onboard in less than twenty minutes. Sixty check-in counters were open, with no lines or waiting at all. The greeting upon boarding was the standard Celebrity welcome with sparkling wine. We were told that cabins were not ready yet, but we headed to ours anyway to drop off our hand luggage, where we found our cabin was ready and we were greeted by our steward, Minino, who had served me excellently last year on the Constellation. It appears that Celebrity has brought many of their best crew on from the other ships, as I saw many familiar, friendly faces among the crew on Solstice.

Our Aqua Class cabin was spacious, well laid out and spotlessly clean. The cabins alternate layouts, with some having the beds closer to the balcony and others closer to the bathroom. Ours was the second variety, and that worked well for us, but some might find the access to the closet somewhat limited by the proximity to the bed. The bed itself was the best I have had on Celebrity. It was a very comfortable pillow-top mattress, similar to those on HAL. The linens were high thread count and the towels were thick and plush, as were the bathrobes supplied. The bathroom itself was spacious with a vessel sink, large shower with multi-spa showerhead and sliding, curved glass doors. Other highlights of the cabin were a 32" LCD Television, attractive leather sofa and chair, and a roomy balcony with comfortable sling chairs and footrests. We were very comfortable and found ample storage space for all of our clothing and personal items.
