As this was our first cruise, ever, we really had nothing to compare it too but stories from other people who cruise a lot. We were surprised to be told this was a small ship, until we saw the Adventure of the Seas docked next to us at one port. We didn't chose this ship, we chose the ports of call and this was the one going there.

Sure the ship had some maintenance needed, but you're on a ship sailing on the seas, being used everyday by thousands of people. You can't expect perfection. Your on a ship at sea, soooo, some movement and rolling as well. If I wanted to feel nothing, I'd have stayed on land at a hotel. While not all of the activities offered were our cup of tea, there was more than enough to do if you wanted to keep busy, and more than enough places to squirrel yourself away to just watch the views and read.

The best part of the trip was the staff. Not one person in uniform, or coveralls, failed to smile and say hello whenever we passed, and all were up for a short conversation with complete strangers. Our cabin Steward was exceptional and our Waiter and his assistant were by far the best team in the room. (In the opinion of our whole table). Food was plentiful and we really lacked for nothing important. When we filled in the mid-cruise survey, we listed one or two small things that were lacking, but ended with praise for the staff. So were touched a few days later when we were personally thanked by the Head Waiter for our comments and even received a call from the Hotel Administrator to thank us as well.

Cabin Review

Large Interior Stateroom

Cabin K

I considered the cabin just a little shorter than the RV trailer we use each summer. So in that context there was only a few small things I would change. Out Bathroom sink was a really nice counter top ceramic bowl and the tap was a modern looking unit, BUT, they were so close together that you need to have your hands rubbing on the side of the bowl to rinse them off. A small thing, easily fixed, no biggie. And a light on a dimmer would have made it easier to turn on lights in the morning without blinding you. And as said before, No refrigerators and a coffee pot would have been nice. Over all though, from other cabins we visited and ours, very, very comfortable.

Port Reviews

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Had a quick east embarkation with lots of people to point the way and get us on the ship. Porters took our bags, security was surprisingly friendly, and we had the time to wander the ship and grab some food as well.

St. Thomas

Just did a walkabout and saw some historical sites, shopping, parks, iguanas and a tram ride up to Paradise point for some spectacular views of the land and the ship. Sadly Blackbeard's Castle was closed and only open 2 days a week until May.

St. Maarten

Just wandered the downtown, did some shopping and sightseeing. Then took a cab over to Divi Bay Resort so we could wander up and see Fort Amsterdam. Quite the place and even waded in the Sea at the beach.

St. Kitts (Port Zante)

While we enjoyed St Kitts, we should have taken a tour. We took our own ride out to see the Ross Veterinary University. Someone told us to take any taxi with an "H" on the plate. Kinda got creeped out by the attitudes of some of the taxis (12-14 people per) Saw the Local Museum, very nice, and heard about a heritage site not far down the road used to execute pirates. Had some really surly guys following us who came out of a bar and a guy with a pet monkey wrestled me for my camera til a local policeman on a motorcycle came by and he gave back the camera and grabbed the monkey and left quickly.
