We sailed on the Glory 11/15/08 from Port Canaveral with a destination of the Western Caribbean. We live in Orlando so getting onboard was totally painless. Dropped bags off at the curb, parked the car, picked up our sign and sail cards and bingo, we were aboard this magnificent ship. I booked my cruise through Carnival and was given excellent treatment by our booking agent, Lorelei Tello . Our balcony room on Empress Deck was gorgeous, and so romantic, we will never go again without a stateroom with a balcony. Our cabin steward, Sherwin was very attentive and helpful. He came to our room as soon as the ship sailed and asked what some of our preferences were and what, if anything we needed. This was our third cruise with Carnival so we knew what to expect and were not disappointed. One of our main concerns was smoking on board, and I must tell you we were very pleased with the way the Glory has smoke free areas, including the entire outside port decks. Even the bar in the Casino area and at least half of the lounges were smoke free. You can be confident that smoke will not be too much of an issue on this ship. Our favorite hangout was the huge lounge that ran from mid-ship to aft on the Promenade Deck, usually right in front of the Sushi Bar, which was delicious. That is also the area where the casino and several clubs are located. We loved the singer by the casino bar, DeWayne he was country and always had a large crowd. Also, Old Glory Atrium was a general gathering place for people. All the entertainment on the ship was great, and there was always something for everyone regardless of your taste in music. Sunday was a day at sea and gave us a good opportunity to get acclimated to the ships layout, my husband became our scout on this trip, I was always lost, but I make an adventure out of it and met the nicest people during my wandering. I always found my way back to someplace familiar with lots of stories to tell my hubby. I spent a lot of time before we left researching different things to do in port and paid very close attention to reviews on this site and others. Our first port was Cozumel and I had planned a "wing it" day. We started off on foot and got a cab to the downtown area, our Driver Mario was a wonderful guide and we decided to spend the day with him seeing the Island from a local point of view. We went to several historic places so I could take pictures and then for a great lunch on the beach at Coconuts on the cliffs overlooking the water. Great Day, Mario even took us to see his home and meet his family, they were very gracious and welcomed us. We decided this would be our best day of the cruise. Next day, Belize where I had booked with Cave-Tubing.com from home. These people are professionals, I received a confirmation within 24 hours - with no deposit required! We were given detailed instructions on where to go when we got off the ship, and they were there waiting for us, and about 40 other lucky people. Transported by AC Bus, with the best entertainment this side of Las Vegas. Our lead guide was Richard, what a doll, he had us all laughing the whole way (45 minutes) to the cave area. We collected our tubes and headed off for a 20 minute walk through the jungle. So beautiful, we saw monkeys and all kinds of amazing local trees and plants. The trip was beautiful, and the guides were very informative. As far as safety, I felt completely safe with Richard, Evan, and the rest of the Cave-Tubing.com guys. They worked really hard, and aside from each group having two guides there were extra staff just mixing in and back and forth to make sure we were all fine. After we returned to the bus, with a quick stop for changing out of wet stuff, they collected their charge from everyone, which we all paid gladly, if you did not have a good time on this trip it is your fault!! And DO NOT let the ship tell you this is not safe, I am in more danger in the local grocery store than with them. But do make sure you get tender information the night before, because the ship is not real concerned about how you get ashore unless you book tours with them and Belize is a tender port. They also have another ATV trip that you can take alone or combine with the cave run. We did not do it this time, but will on our next visit. The more time you can spend with this great bunch of young men the better your time will be. Next morning we arrived at Roatan, the most beautiful harbor I have ever seen. The whole island is lush and green and the locals friendly and helpful. After information on got on this site from previous visitors to Roatan we went to Fins & Flippers for the day. Beautiful little island with incredible grounds, pool, beach and snorkeling. Loved it!! Thanks to all who suggested it. We attended the Past Guest VIP Cocktail party and I won the drawing for a meal for 2 at the Emerald Supper Club, all I can say about that is that it was experience of a lifetime!!! The food was the very best. We ate most of our meals at the Red Sail Buffet, since we were always in the middle of something fun when dinner time came. (8:15 seating) the food was all good, good quality and unlimited amounts. The staff in the dining room and the buffet was wonderful, very friendly and attentive. Everything was perfect, we did not want to get off the ship when it returned to Canaveral. We plan to go again as soon as possible. I read other reviews about this ship and sometimes wonder how we could have been on the same ship?? If you don’t have a wonderful time on this cruise, with the beautiful ports, and amazing crew it will be your own fault. Life is what you make it. Plan to enjoy yourself and the company of your traveling companions, kick back and have fun.
