My sailing buddy and I flew into San Diego on Friday, October 31 and spent Halloween in the Gaslamp Quarter, enjoying dinner at a great Indian restaurant and seeing lots of folks dressed up. After a great night's stay at the Omni Hotel, we took a taxi to the Cruise Terminal at 11:00 a.m., and were on the ship by 11:40. The deck stewards were directing passengers to the Lido Deck for lunch as the cabins were not yet ready. We set sail just after 5:00 p.m. following the mandatory Life Boat Drill. NOTE: The officers take roll! The next day there were several passengers completing a make-up drill. After returning the life vests to the cabins, my friend and I explored the ship and found the Ryndam to be quite nicely appointed.

We booked a guaranteed BB category cabin, which has a Verandah. We were booked into a BA room which had a nicely sized balcony with a chaise lounge, a wicker chair and a small table. The room had twin beds, a sofa bed, adjustable table, six large drawers in the vanity dresser, two large closets and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. We found the room to be very comfortable and convenient. Even though it was over the Ocean Bar, seldom were we disturbed by any noises.

The public rooms on the Ryndam are quite nice. Our first event was the Saturday Vigil Mass in the Wajang Theater. The Theater also shows movies regularly during the day and doubles as the Culinary Arts Center which features cooking demonstrations as well as hands-on cooking classes.
