Sail Date: Oct 2008

My husband and I vacationed on the Carnival Glory on October 4th sailing to the Western Caribbean. This was our third cruise. For our honeymoon 3 years ago we sailed on the Fantasy's 3 day to Bahamas and I got hooked. We then tried Royal Caribbean's Sovereign of the Seas- (big mistake- definitely not up to our expectations- don't believe it when people tell you RCCL is superior to Carnival- we found the opposite to be true-especially in service and dining.) and this year we took our longest cruise on the Glory 7 day. We live within 20 minutes of the port so transportation was not an issue- got dropped off and picked up by family member. Room: We originally booked a category 11 mini-suite, however a week before the cruise we received a phone call from Carnival with an offer for a significant discount for an upgrade to a Category 12 Penthouse Suite. The room steward and service provided in room were very good- there was an initial mix up and we kept coming back to the room while they were cleaning- but that was because we changed our dinner assignment. Food: The food in the dining room was very good. We ate there 6 of the 7 nights. However I must say I remember the service being spectacular on the Fantasy- . We found that we had a much longer wait time between courses and the staff appeared to be stretched very thin. However our server was wonderful and actually called us by name every time she saw us in the dining room or on deck on the ship. The chocolate melting cake was awesome (got the recipe from the cooking demonstration) but my favorite desert had to be the Bitter and Blanc.-if you get the opportunity definitely try it. Lido buffet was your average buffet. We actually used room service a couple of times this cruise and received our food quickly and as ordered. Entertainment: We attended a couple of shows. The illusionist was very good and so was the comedian. We found that there was plenty of things to do-we tried Roulette for the first time and won $140 in 10 minutes- beginners luck!. W e also really enjoyed the band "Music Degree" -my husband asked the lead singer if he knew our song and he wasn't sure of it but 2 nights later played it for us- totally awesome group of musicians~! My husband is not a pool person but I was able to get him into the whirlpool at the spa- very nice and usually less crowded than the ones on the pool deck: Shore Excursions: Cozumel: Deluxe Sail, Snorkel & Beach Party- This was great- My husband snorkeled for the 1st time and got hooked on it- I didn't try snorkeling(because of issues with glasses) however was able to swim/float along and could see the fish through the clear water even without a mask. After snorkeling we were taken on the Catamaran to a private beach with floating mats, ocean trampoline and rock climbing wall- it was a blast! Definitely would recommend this trip. Roatan: Clear kayak, snorkeling and Gumbalimba Park- The water wasn't as clear as Cozumel and quite a bit rougher- still had fun kayaking - it was a work out! The park was nice with a pool and trails- got to see monkeys, parrots, and iguanas. Very cool place! Belize: Altun Ha Mayan Site & River Wallace- Let me just start by saying that this was a nasty rainy day- we woke up to storms at 4am and even when we met our excursion group at 8 were not sure if Carnival was gonna run the trip. They did- our group actually got lucky and had the hour long bus ride to the ruins first- by time we reached the ruins it had stopped raining- yeah! The ruins were ok- guess I expected to be thrilled with them but wasn't- we then got back on the bus and went to a very small local place for lunch- traditional Belize lunch or rice and beans-we are not so adventurous so we did not try the food- also there were no other options and NO BOTTLED WATER-at all on this trip- so bring crackers and water with you- or you will go hungry! After lunch we did the river tour- the water was very high because of recent rains- didn't see much -being from Florida I have already seen my fair share of alligators and Manatees so wasn't that impressed. Overall not that great.-but still better than no excursion at all. We also did a little shopping at the port . Freeport: Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach Resort Day Pass- -this place is nowhere near as nice as the description lends it to be . Water is filled with seaweed and sticks- too rough to really snorkel. NO BOTTLED WATER- Rude wait staff-limited choice of lunch- did not hear or see any live music as advertised. And be prepared to be bothered by locals all morning long trying to sell you t-shirts or braid your hair. Also no air conditioning on bus ride to or from this "resort". DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY Overall we had a fantastic cruise and loved the Glory- we would definitely sail on her again- maybe next time to the Eastern Caribbean.
