We arrived in Rome on Sept.23 same day as the cruise. We got off the plane at 6:30 a.m. Went through customs, got our luggage. By 9:00 we were on a bus to The Vatican. We did the Holy Rome Tour offered by Carnival. It was good, but we were very tired after the long flight. Next time would fly in the day before. We arrived at the ship at 5:00. It think it took 15 min. until we were on board. Embarkation was so easy. The ship was nice. Yes there was a lot of pink. It was not that bad. We explored the ship a little, then met with some people that we had set up private excursions with through cruise critic. We had 8:30 seating for dinner. Our table mates were great. One couple we spent almost the entire cruise with. We had alot of fun with them. The food was good in dinning room. We ate 2 times in the supper club, which is fantastic. We did not eat breakfast much as we never had time on port days, and on sea days we slept till 11:00 a.m. Usually i am a early riser on sea days, i like to watch the sun come up. Not on this cruise. Our room steward was superb. He was the best one i have had so far. The whole staff on The Splendor were great.Except for some in the spa. This was my one complaint. Our first sea day i had a bamboo massage, it was not that great. What upset me was the girl made a few comments to me that were very insulting. She was trying to sell more services and product. I shrugged it off. On our last sea day, actually we were suppose to stop in France, but they had 60 mph winds, so we had another sea day.I decided to try the spa again. They had a special for a massage and facial. Well, the girl started my massage and proceeded to tell me that i have severe damage to my back and that in 2 years i would be walking hunched over, I am only 35, i have no back problems, I run, i lift weights, and iam a hairstylist, so i am up straight all day long. Anyways she then told me she did not understand why i was bothering getting a massage, it was not going to help. I was getting a massage to relax, In the end it was all so she could try to sell me some product.I think the spa needs to work on how they speak to people. That was my only complaint on the ship, every thing else was great.Sorry, Entertainment was lacking a little. All of the ports were great. Venice was my favorite, we had 2 days there, so we just got off the ship and did our own thing. We had our private tours in Naples and Florence. We used Limonitaly. They were great. In dubrovnik we did a ship sponsored tour it was good. The old city of Dubrovnik was great, We walked the wall and it was beautiful. In Sicily, we did a ship tour to Taoromina. Very pretty there, but i got board with the shopping after few hours. Barcelona, we did the hop on hop off bus to the Cathedral, it takes a while to get there, found out a cab was only 15 euros. We then walked los Ramblas, had lunch and went back to the ship. We were back on board by 2:00. This was my least favorite port. Debarkation was just as easy as embarkation. We got off the ship at7:15 we were eat the airport an hour later. Rome airport is very unorganized. Have alot of patience. All in all the trip was great.
