Thursday, 9/18 - My husband and I flew Continental non-stop from Newark to Honolulu. It took 10 hours and wasn't bad at all. There was a little TV screen on the back of the seat in front of each of us. We could select what to watch; bought head sets for $1. One channel had a U.S. map showing the plane's progress. When it went over the Great Lakes we looked down and saw them. I even saw the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Arrived in Honolulu at 6:14 pm and took a taxi to Waikiki Marriott. Checked in and went to dinner at the Shore Bird Beach Bar at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. It's an open-air restaurant/bar that was recommended in the Oahu Revealed book. Nice. After dinner it was about 9:00 pm, but 3:00 am in our heads, so we went back to the hotel.
Friday, 9/19, OAHU - Went for breakfast, but it was too early, so we bought some Seattle's Best coffee and walked to Sheraton Moana. Went to their pool area and sat under an umbrella table on Waikiki Beach facing Diamond Head and watched the early surfers, outrigger canoes, etc. What a beautiful scene. Then we went for breakfast at Duke's Canoe Club at the Outrigger Waikiki. They had a wonderful buffet. Afterward we walked back to the hotel stopping at some shops along the way for postcards, etc.
The cabin (8594) was fine, but I would recommend a higher deck since we were right above the life boats limiting the view.
