We stayed at the Hotel Visconti prior to our cruise. The buses are not able to go down the streets where the hotel is located therefore, you have to walk approximately 3 blocks to the hotel. This is difficult for the elderly or anyone with disabilities. The hotel is located in a residential area. The hotel is clean, staff professional but the street area is dirty and plenty of graffiti. There is not much close to the hotel. We did find some wonderful pastry shops around the corner from the hotel with the best cream puffs.. The next day we had booked a private tour thru benvenutolimos for the "Monuments of Rome" which we shared with some CC friends. We also had a private guide by the name of "Walter" which the tour company arranged for the Vatican. He was absolutely wonderful and was very knowledgeable about the Vatican. Our tour for the day was for 8 hours and we saw so many things. To name a few would be the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Coliseum, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc. etc. etc.. Lunch was on our own and our driver picked out a small sandwich shop which was all we needed. I was amazed at the sites but disappointed in how dirty I found the city of Rome. We had arranged a Carnival transfer from the hotel to the ship. We walked our 3 blocks to pick up the shuttle. On the way we did have a lady fall due to the condition of the sidewalks. Once we arrived at the port we were on the ship within 10 minutes. We were in a Category 12 and had no wait. Overall, it appeared that embarkation was very organized no matter what category you were in.

Once we boarded, we went straight to our cabin. It was more space than we needed. 3 double closets, 3 sinks, a Jacuzzi tub which was used quite often. Our steward by the name of Ernesto was fantastic. He and his assistant were very pleasant, and seemed to always appear from no where! By the end of the cruise, they felt like family to us.

The buffet overall for breakfast and lunch was probably the most disappointing. After 2 mornings of crowds in the buffet we opted for the dining room and this was very pleasant. I would suggest this. We also had lunch in the dining room 1 day which was enjoyable but we were also able to find items to eat at the buffet . There were also a few nights that we just did not want to get dressed up and ended up at the buffet.

Cabin Review

Cabin 12

Our cabin was very tasteful. More room than we needed and plenty of closet space. The jacuzzi bath after a long day of touring was the best. I would say we were mid ship and enough distance between elevators and laundry room. It was quiet and did not have any issues with noise.
