My wife and I are late 50's and this was our 22nd cruise. We usually cruise with our adult(?) children and other families and have used RCCL, Celebrity, and Princess. It's my opinion that the large market cruise lines produce very similar overall cruise experiences which are very, very good given the price and number of people they are trying to make happy. We had heard good things about HAL and were looking forward to sailing on a ship only two months old. We flew from LAX to JFK the day before on Virgin America (very nice airline) and used the pre-cruise hotel and transfer package from HAL...all went smoothly and by noon the next day we were bussing thru mid town Manhattan to the New York pier. Embarkation was painless and we were soon exploring our new home... The Eurodam is a beautifully done ship from top to bottom; well thought out well decorated with plenty of gorgeous public areas; my wife could not stop talking about the amazing fresh flower displays. Just like a new car a new ship is very special and if you can plan on sailing on a new one someday; do it. In particular the Lido Deck and Buffet, Explorers Lounge, and Silk Den are wonderfully done and work very well; also the culinary arts lounge and programs were a pleasant way to spend some time. Our Cabin.. A ss veranda suite was gorgeous (one step up from a normal size veranda room) gave us the perfect amount of space for a 10 day cruise and the balcony and it's furniture were very comfortable. Also our room steward was a 10plus..the best ever. Food; Very good overall..soups excellent, desserts a little weak; pretty similar to the other cruise lines we've sailed. We ate one night at Pinnacle Grill ($20 extra). 5-star..don't miss it. The Lido buffet does a nice job, but a buffet is a buffet... Service...Across the ship very good, very friendly; WITH ONE EXCEPTION..our server in the Rembrandt Dining Room was not up to par at all and the assistant waiter was nowhere to be found. Our table mates have sailed HAL many times and said this was not the norm. Entertainment....Without a doubt the best overall of all our cruise's; the production shows were superb, the comedian fantastic, and cruise director a polished pro. Ports...My wife and I do our own thing at each port and stay away from the ships programs$$$$. Newport,RI and Boston were very good and the weather was great..St. John, Halifax, and Sidney are very pretty but not much going on. We missed Charlotte Town because of weather so our last stop was Quebec City...one of the best most interesting ports we've been to. We over nighted here and walked off the ship the following morning with no hassles at all. Summary...This cruise had ALOT of elderly people on board and looking at the childrens facilities I don't think they plan on having many on board in the future...not a bad thing but if you travel with youngsters try another cruise line. A minor complaint..beautiful 32 inch flat screen tv in our cabin and only about 8 channels; no Fox News, not enough sports channels. Overall we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Eurodam...
