We are first time cruisers and had a wonderful time on the Celebrity Infinity to Alaska that sailed 7-25-08. Background: We are professionals in our mid 30's-40's, married 5 years and no children (yet). Wanted to see Alaska in the shortest time possible so decided a cruise would do just that. We chose Celebrity for its itinerary only, because it gave us another day in port (3+ Hubbard Glacier). Overall cruise experience was great! Getting on and off the ship took 15 min each. Food was nice but not fabulous. Service was wonderful. Excursions made the whole trip! I cannot say enough about our wonderful 3 port excursions: Kayak in Sitka, Photo Safari in Juneau and Floatplane in Ketchikan. Room was nicer than I expected. Entertainment and enrichment was wonderful when it was available. Weather was rainy in Sitka and Ketchikan, to be expected I hear. The few hours at the Hubbard Glacier were so magnificent. This cruise does not cruise the 'Inside Passage' at all, but it does not state that it does either. Looks like we traded one extra day in an Alaska port for the cruising of the inside passage. Overall, we would recommend and cruise Celebrity again. Now for more details… the first two days (Friday, Saturday) were cruising days and we had some small waves. We took Dramamine these days only and did not have a problem with motion sickness. We missed the dining room dinner the first night and wish we had not. The dining room experience, especially since we had a wonderful table (#408) diagonal to the captain's table, and the service by Ricky, Freddy and Henry were outstanding. Food was great and the service was quick the first few nights, but by night 5-7 it was lacking a bit. The excursions were awesome. We went kayaking in Sitka, which was raining. Our guide, Jetson, was very informative and attentive to safety. We saw starfish, lots of vegetation and lots of salmon swimming very fast underneath us. Juneau was our favorite port city by far. We talked about wanting to just fly into Juneau and spending a few days there because there is so much to do and see. The downtown was small and took only and hour to visit the photo spots. Had a wonderful latte at the Heritage coffee shop on 2nd street. Check it out if you can. The coffee on the Infinity was lacking in flavor and a welcome coffee break at the Heritage was refreshing. I was shocked that none of the three Alaskan port cities had a Starbucks nearby…someone could make a fortune with a franchised one for weary cruisers! We did a photo safari here that included the Mendenhall glacier by land and whale watching by sea. Our guide, Chad, was incredible. He is a professional photographer and was so helpful and knowledgeable. We saw dozens of whales with a bright sunny day! In Ketchikan we took an hour plus floatplane tour of the Misty Fiords. We flew in a brand new 10 passenger De Havland Otter. It was a smooth flight full of amazing views.

We tried to go to most of the shows and lectures on board. The comedians Jeff and Rich were funny but Jeff was funnier by far. The quartet and acrobats were very talented. The speakers were an oceanographer and a woman who climbed the seven summits. Both were wonderful but only offered two talks each the whole trip. I found that there was a ton of downtime for us since we are not into shopping, art, bingo, origami, flower arranging, karaoke, or the beauty treatments at the spa. We did visit the gym several times and it was great. My only issue is that it needs to be open later than 10pm. It is hard to have dinner, see the show and make it to work out before closing. Overall, we had an amazing time and took hundreds of pictures. We will not cruise for a while since we want to have children and we found out all children (even infants) pay full price for a cruise. We will wait until they are old enough to enjoy it! Once they are older, we will definitely cruise Celebrity again!

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2B

Cabin 2b

Room was fine. Good views in Alaska. The balcony states as 'semi private' which means that your neighbors with the suite on your right side can see onto your balcony only if they have the blinds up in their third window. It was not an issue. Room may get noise from the hallway but we slept with the bathroom door open and that helped to filter out any hallway noise. Overall, would stay in this room again. Location to the staris mid-ship was nice.
