EMBARKATION: We flew down the night before and spent the night at a hotel. The next morning, we took the shuttle to the airport (about 11AM) and the Carnival airport greeters were waiting, as expected. We waited only about 15 minutes before they started boarding the shuttle to the pier. Check-in went smoothly, no long lines. I strongly suggest you get to the airport early, to avoid a crowd. We boarded the ship about 11:30 and had some time to find our room and get settled, somewhat. They were serving a nice buffet on the Lido deck.

CABIN: We booked a cabin on the Empress deck. It is an older ship, so the cabin was small, but very clean. The cabin steward was very nice and did a fantastic job. We asked for extra pillows and he got them for us immediately. The cabin always smelled clean, so no complaints, there. The room had a safe( thankfully) but what I didn't like was that we could not access our folio from the television set like on other cruise ships. I like to keep track of what I'm spending. Also, bring a hair dryer, none are provided.

THE SHIP ITSELF: This was our ninth cruise on various ships, some with Carnival, some with other cruise lines. We knew this was a smaller, older ship and we thought the no smoking would be very nice, and it was, but we are probably a little spoiled having been on larger, more elegant ships. The ship, itself, was kind of drab and it didn't have the amenities that other ships have. For instance, there is no tour desk. It's just an area where you can pick up a cruise form, fill it in and drop it in the box. There was really no one there to ask questions. We didn't have any, but I'm sure other people did.
