Would do this again in a heartbeat!!!

Sail Date: June 2008
Destination: Bermuda
Embarkation: Bayonne (Cape Liberty)
This was our first cruise with RCCL...and we are so glad we switched from Carnival! We are in our early 30's and left the twins at home so we could have a nice grown up vacation.

Getting on: I have heard a lot of complaints regarding Cape Liberty--but I found them to be completely UNFOUNDED! We arrived at 11:00am and walked right up to the desk, handed the number 3 for the bus and promptly shown where the cookies and lemonade was. We didn't have to wait very long...didn't really even mind waiting since they had seats, drinks and food :). Got right on the bus and on to the ship in no time.

First impression of the Explorer...BREATHTAKING...this ship is so beautiful!! Three story dining room, Intimate Portofino's, nice cabins. We were impressed.

FOOD: THis is the one area that I will agree that Carnival has the edge. The food was not horrible but just wasn't as great as Carnival. There were several days that the menu on the dining room did not have anything More I desired (and I love food!) THe buffet was the almost the same every day with the exception of the Asian flare, which was good. They had the blackest iced tea that I have ever seen or tasted. Portofino's was a DO NOT MISS! The food was outstanding. We got the Calamari, Ceaser Salad, Pasta Ragu, and Filets...the steaks was as good as you would find in a steakhouse back home. We tried the sampler dessert and the chocolate cake was our favorite. We also tried Johnny Rockets and I was disappointed that they did not sing during our meal and we found the service lacking when we went. The food was tasty though.

SHOWS: Do not miss any :) The only show that we were kind of bored with was the "Invitation to dance" We loved the Quest, Ice show, Marriage game show. We played every trivia game on board and actually game in second for Majority rules...we got free hats for that!

THINGS TO DO: It was non stop..from playing putt putt, to laying out, to working out, to ice skating to climbing the rock wall...we tried to do it all. We felt like we needed just one more day to fit it all in...we didn't get to the inline skating...and felt like we could have used more time by the pool :) We were never bored on this boat. We had a blast!!!

This boat was soo smooth...we didn't even feel it moving..and we got soo sick on Carnival Celebration last year. This was a great experience.

BERMUDA: ONe piece of advice....leave plenty of time to get back to the boat if using the buses. We were at the bus stop at 2 pm and almost missed our 4:30 time to get back to the boat. We watched as all the wrong buses passed us and eventually we had to get a bus to the beach so we could get from the beach to the dock....however, the Swizzle Inn was worth the trouble!

LEAVING: Smooth process. We did express checkout and as soon as the called any group (even though we were group 8) we headed to deck one and off we went.

We loved this cruise....already looking to book another RCCL...this time with the kids!! Less

Cabin review: M7357 Interior Stateroom

Room next to the crew area...lots of noise during the day as they have their work cart next to our room.
