There were 7 of us:myself,DH (we've cruised before)DS(29)DIL(26)DD(26)DD(24) and DS(21) this was their first cruise. We drove to Miami from Middle Tenn. not bad but a 14 hour drive. We left on Fri night arriving at our hotel Springhills Suite Marriott near the airport around noon. We cleaned up, rested a little then went to Bayside. Walked around the various shops, listened to music, even got in some dancing. Enjoyed a good meal at Bubba Gumps then returned to the hotel for a good nights rest. SUNDAY: After eating our complimentary "ok" breakfast at hotel the hotel arranged for a shuttle to pick us up and take us to the port. We were able to leave our cars there at hotel at no charge. The shuttle was great, plenty of room and for $10 per person each direction well worth the money. I would highly recommend Hector Gonzalez with Miami Sunshine Transportation. We arrived at the terminal around 1030 went straight to the checkin desk, were given a Zone 3 card so we were able to board quickly once they gave the all clear for boarding. Once on we went to find our rooms on Lido deck,we had a balcony DS/DIL inside room and DD/DD/DS shared an inside room, they were not quite ready but Dewa our steward was on the hall and told us to leave our things and go have fun. He was great all week. So next thing was to hit the buffet. Everyone started enjoying the ship, DOD and the buckets of beer. We did the usual 1st day stuff:muster drill, walked around, eat, drink, dance. We had planned to meet our Roll Call group around sail away but apparently we missed some but we caught up with several others during the week and really enjoyed meeting them. We ate our dinner in the Atlantic Dining room (early sitting) where we meet Remberto and Ria. Enjoyed our first of many great meals, minus DS(21) he had "enjoyed" the first day a little too much so he made an early night of it. MONDAY: Sea Day/1st Formal Night. DH and I woke up around 630 and were joined by DS(21) who was anxious to start the day. We enjoyed coffee and a bagel on the balcony. We relaxed and enjoyed the pool most of the day. DD's and I tried out the slide, that was fun. While us girls sunbathed the guys explored the ship - one end to the other. Sometime on Monday the ship picked up 10 Cuban refugees off a raft, they stayed on board all week, the ship tried to get Mexico to take them on Tues but it didn't work. Went to the dining room for our dinner, great Lobster! Both DS's ordered a second. In fact they pretty much ordered two starters and two entrees along with dessert all week. You would have thought they were bottomless pits and neither one of them are very big guys. DH was really glad the food was already paid for!! TUESDAY:COZUMEL. We had booked a Dune Buggy excursion prior to sailing with www.caribbeanshoretours.com. it was great. There was only 19 of us altogether so it was much more personal than ship excursions and there were 3-4 in a buggy. We had gotten off the ship early, not thinking about time difference, but that was ok it gave us time to walk around some shops. The tour guys kept the coolers in all the Dune buggies full of drinks (included)and did a great job of the tour. First stop was snorkeling, then on to a little village for some shopping, last stop was a beautiful white sand beach where we played in the water while our guides prepared our meal. What a meal!! the best guacamole. Then back to the ship. The ship had a Fiesta planned with music/buffet. Since we had eaten so much on the beach we opted for the buffet over the dining room. The party was ok, our last cruise on Conquest the party was alot better, more activity and entertainment better. WEDNESDAY:SEA DAY. A repeat of the first sea day pretty much tried to sleep in a little but the kids kinda filter over early, they said they wanted to enjoy every minute not waste it on sleep. As usual we had our coffee on the balcony then ate breakfast at the buffet. Enjoyed some time at the casino, won a little, tried some bingo, I won a bottle of Champagne and DS(29)won $250. DH and I did the ship tour that was very interesting. Enjoyed dinner in the dining room again with the best staff, Remberto & Ria. THURSDAY:GRAND CAYMAN - tendered, no problem very smooth. DH, DS(21),DD(24)and I went for the Sting Rays and Rum Point Beach. The others decided on shopping and 7 Mile Beach. The rays were fun DH and I had experienced them before. Rum Point Beach was beautiful and I would encourage everyone to see it. We did a little shopping and returned to ship. FRIDAY:JAMAICA - 2nd formal night. Again we booked our excursion prior to sailing with same web site. We did Dunn Falls and River Tubing. Loved the falls and guides were great we even purchased the video, we knew we'd never be able to explain it good enough. The river tubing was very relaxing and beautiful and the guides here were also very good. Shopping on the other hand - locals very very pushy and many very rude. Ended the tour at Margaritaville, had a good time and good meal. DD(26) won a Tshirt. SATURDAY: SEA DAY. Just another lazy day. Repacked the bags and lounged around. Enjoyed the quiet of our balcony. Enjoyed the champagne at our last dinner and toasted a great family vacation. That evening after dinner they made an announcement that they were stopping the ship so that the Coast Guard could come along side and that they were having to hand over the 10 refugees to them to be returned to Cuba. Many guests lined the railings and watched out windows, so many people on one side of ship! Everyone very quiet just watching, actually a very touching moment. Many people reflecting on just how lucky we are especially when you think what their fate may be when they are returned to their country and what their lives may have been like to make them set out across the ocean on a raft. SUNDAY: DISEMBARKMENT. We did self-assist. The whole process was a nightmare. The worst part of week, long lines at customs, custom clerks taking breaks, we'd probably still be there if we would have had to stand in line to find our bags. Did see two fellow passengers get walked off to waiting police cars in handcuffs! Hmmmm don't think it was fruit they were trying to bring back. But Hector was there waiting for us, he loaded our luggage up and back to the hotel we went to our waiting cars and off we went. Overall the week was great-wonderful-the best. Everyone really enjoyed and we had some great family time. Time that sometimes hard to get because of everyone's schedules and little ones running around. In fact now they are all looking at where and when to go next - THEY ARE HOOKED! The Victory was great, staff wonderful. Oh and yes WOO HOO.
