Liberty to Panama, Costa Rica

Sail Date: May 2008
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
We left Ga and stayed in Ft Lauderdale prior to cruising. The Embassy Suites has been newly renovated and is beautiful. The pool is incredible with a waterfall and plenty of seating. You can see the ships from the outside porches at the end of the floors from 6 up. They are suites with an incredible spread put out for breakfast that is free.

We boarded on 5-10 which was a nightmare. They had us all lined up out in the hot sun all the way around the building. Several people were almost run over by fork lifts because we were standing next to the luggage racks they were moving. The line did move quickly but there were a lot of elderly people there in that heat.

Once aboard there were no nice people standing around to greet you or to offer you a drink of the day. Let me say this is our 6th cruise (3rd on Carnival). We made our way to the cabin and to eat lunch.

We set sail on time to a beautiful evening out at sea. The ship is beautiful in decorations, it seems More they got away from the neon a little on this ship.

The dining room was excellent. The wait staff was great as always. The food was excellent and they still have the incredible chocolate melting cakes. Our waiter was Abadi and was so good to us. We also ran into a waiter that was in the dining room last year on the Victory when we went.

The cabin was what we are used to we always get a balcony. The first night aboard our steward just stuck his head in and asked if we would be ok for the first night. Of course not wanting to be a nag we said yes and let him go.We asked for the fridge to be emptied all cokes be put in, that never happened. They stop doing your room at 12:30 so we made our own bed a few days and only asked for ice and clean towels. We got back on in Panama and I laid my license and sign and sail on desk and it disappeared so beware and put them in the safe.

Our dinner seating was 5:45 the most unhappy we were was the fact that nothing opened until 9:30pm so there was nothing to do from dinner until then. The disco was not available a couple of nights and the other it did not open until 11:oopm. Some nights the teens had it. that was a real let down being bored. the Lido pool deck buffet was good but was only open from !2:00 -2:30 but there was always food such as pizza, hot dogs and such. They tables were never set with silverware and you couldn't find any. Very slow at cleaning up and resetting silver. Why not just put it up with the plates and trays and get your own. Hardly nobody was walking around offering the drink of the day either.

The entertainment was the best I've seen so far. The dancers are incredible people even away from the stage.

It did not seem like much was going on during the day or at night. The lounge had a really good band playing and also in the lobby they were great. There was no service in the Victoria lounge. We always had to go get our own drinks but you better believe the gratuities were still charged even though you had no waiter. Serve yourself and pay for it! Many times if there was a waiter they would look at you and walk away.

Most of the pursers are rude. The captain made an announcement one night a dinner about the entertainment for that night and it was wrong so we asked to make sure it was the dancers, we were treated like we were stupid.

Photo people were not very polite. I was showing someone that some pics were behind each other and the person working jerked them away and said no they are not.

The worst was in Mexico when we re-boarded they took out liquor we bought and from Costa Rica they did not take it. When we asked at the pursers desk about it and about boxes they were really rude and said boxes were only for guest who buy in their shop. They did not carry these. The people in the store had the same attitude. It was all well and fine but I couldn't even get them to sell me one.
Hey Carnival you are loosing and opportunity to make money by selling the boxes if your not going to carry more varieties of liquor.

I'm really not a complainer and the trip was good. I would not do this trip again because the excursions were expensive and a lot of time spent traveling and hands held out for tips to a lot of people.

Everyone should see the canal once. It was great.

All in all it was a good trip and I will go Carnival again, and would definitely stay at the Embassy Suites again. 8 days were great to be away, just some perks needed to be tweaked. Carnival lost a lot of opportunities to make money on this trip because of the service problems.

Disembarkation of course takes forever to get off but the warehouse part for luggage was smooth and very organized, better than most.

Ya'll keep cruising.

Cabin review: 8A8281 Balcony

Our cabin was 8281 and it was great, a balcony and the bedding is the best. Lots of closet space, quiet location, hallway always busy with stuff in it.
