We just returned from LAX and our eight night Mexican Cruise aboard the NCL Star.

Embarkation: Very smooth, we arrived at the port at 11:30 and were on the ship by noon. Rooms were ready as promised by 1:30. Very organized, well done NCL & Port of LA. NOTE: We did leave port 2 hours late due to mechanical problem - but not a major deal, most probably saved money because casino opened late:)!

Service: This was our 9th cruise and our second NCL cruise. We have never felt so 'in the way' by the staff. We always seemed to be in the staffs way as they barged in front of us, around us or walked through us. Most employees tend to yield to staff but obviously not the case on NCL Star. Dining / Buffet service was the worst - we didn't have a meal where the staff didn't mix up or order. We didn't try to play the water game (something my kids love on prior cruises - see who can empty their glass w/out staff filling them) because they were always empty. Downside of mandatory tips and freestyle dining is they make no attempt for great service - why would they:)? Also annoying that EVERY TIME we ate in the buffet (breakfast / lunches & 1 dinner) they ran out of glasses and or coffee cups. Very annoying. A positive was the Cruise Director staff, the entire team was friendly and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our cruise. They acted like they cared. Wish rest of staff felt same way. (wish rest of team would be interested in customer enjoyment) Bar Service was great - but they were working for tips (and received them from me). Kids Club: Son (5) and Daughter (10) both had a great time. The staff in both age groups were very helpful and worked hard to make sure the kids had a great time - thank you and would recommend NCL for kids - as both times we have a great experience with NCL kids programs (wish rest of staff would model this behavior).
