Traveled with children

We are myself, my husband and a son(15) and daughter(13). We traveled with my Sister, brother in law and their two kids same ages and genders as ours. We arrived two days early and stayed at Embassy Suites 17th street. There were plenty of restaurants and a grocery store right behind the hotel. It was a short walk to the water taxi that we enjoyed for $13(the price went up because of the fuel cost) per person that you could hop on/hop off all day. A taxi ride to the port was short but still $14 for a van to fit 4 persons and luggage. Arrived at 11:30am and a line was forming. We were VIP with a cat 12 so the line was short. We were on in less than 15 minutes. The buffet in the lido deck was typical cruise buffet. The best thing for us is the fruit and salad fixings always fresh and replenished. It was never wilted or brown. There was a carving station and other hot foods available. The men enjoyed the dessert section immensely The deli was good with fresh choices and on the other side was a tex/mex offering with quesadillas, chips and homemade salsas and calamari. We were into our room by 1:30 and the luggage arrived before 3:30. Lots of storage space in a cat 12. We even left a few cabinets empty. The bathroom was very big with double sinks and a tub/shower. There was also a big dressing room with an extra sink that made it very easy for the girls to get ready and not tie up the bathroom. The ship's layout doesn't seem to flow as easily as other ships but we also never noticed crowds except on sea days at the pool. Our teenage boys explored all aspects of the ship and kept us well informed. Key West was fun. We did a bike tour through CCL that was slow and easy. The bikes are very old and one broke down. I just ran along with the group the rest of the way. The guide did offer cab fare and a refund but no one was interested in cutting the tour short. The sea days had people saving chairs at 6 AM but most were the chairs facing the music and big screen. There were many decks and places that chairs were available throughout the day. We kayaked in Grand Cayman with a terrific guide through CCL. It was alot of work since it was very windy but fun. My sister and her family have never kayaked before but the guide gave quick and thorough lesson and everyone felt very comfortable.I don't think the water was ever deeper than 5-6 feet and most times even more shallow. One guest was surprised she had to actually paddle the kayak. We felt kind of bad for her partner since he had to do much of the paddling. So he was paddling her weight in addition to his. Be sure and read the description in the excursion booklet. In Jamaica we booked a tour through Marktours.com. Mark Morris did a terrific job taking us to Dunns River Falls, River tubing and Fern Gully. He was informative and flexible and lots of fun to be with. We always felt safe and well taken care of. Dining room service was excellent thanks to Velizar and Ronald along with our room stewards Bernie and Armondo. We gave terrific reviews on the comment cards. The ship was kept very clean. We saw no dirty dishes left on tables. I have seen many ships where at 6 am there are still many plates left on tables with last nights food. We noticed people constantly washing or cleaning something. Entertainment was spotty. The kids loved the juggler's jokes. Some felt he should stick to juggling. The early show comedian brought some laughs but there were a few uncomfortable quiet pauses. Karaoke was fun. The DJ allowed under 18 to stay a little longer since they were a big part of his audience. But He was encouraging to all and very good. This was spring break so we expected alot of children. We didn't notice many little kids just alot of teens. Unfortunately some were quite loud, late night in the hall but all cruise lines we have been on have ill mannered people. There are plenty of places around ships to have fun and be loud OUTSIDE. My husband enjoyed and even won a bit in the casino. My sister and I enjoyed a hot stone massage. The staff (Maria and Raquel) were terrific. It was soothing and relaxing. There was absolutely no attempt to sell us anything. The work out facilities had great equipment. Not huge but had machines and weights available most of the time. The busiest times seemed to be 8-11am. Early morning and late afternoon were the quietest times to go. The running track was empty at 5:45am except for me, who I think the staff thought I was crazy. It got crowded later in the morning. Getting off the ship was the easiest we've ever had. We found a quiet lounge and waited until our number was called. There were no lines anywhere. We were back at the hotel for overnight by 9:30am. It was a great cruise and would go again easily.
