After 48 years of marriage, I finally got Jan, (my wife) to go on a cruise. Our good friends, Jim and Charlene went with us. We left a cold and snowy Bay City, Michigan on January 31, and planned a 3 day drive to Tampa. We drove to Knoxville Tennessee the first day, Gainesville Florida the second day, and Tampa the third day, one day before the cruise. We checked into our hotel and then checked the area around Channelside, wanting to get familiar with the area before tackling the port on cruise morning. Could not find a parking place, so we parked in the parking lot of the aquarium. Cost $5.00, but it was worth it. Very close to the port drop off area for luggage etc. Talked with a man who was directing traffic into the luggage area and gained the following information from him. He advised us to show up at the port at 10:30 A.M. No earlier. If we wanted to self park, we would unload our luggage with a porter and drive two blocks to self park, which would cost $84.00 for the week. He then stated that if we valet park, it would cost $100.00 for the week, but my vehicle would be brought back to a parking area across the street from debarkation area. That is what we did. It was worth the extra money not to have to carry all our luggage two blocks. CRUISE DAY. Showed up at 10:30 A.M. and was the first vehicle in line to enter luggage drop off area. Charged parking to my credit card, tipped the porter and valet, and entered the embarkation area. We were on the ship at 11:30 A.M., having a reuben sandwich on the Lido deck. We waited til 1:30 P.M. and then headed to our stateroom, Veranda deck fwd starboard. We met our steward, Michael, gave him $20.00 right away, (we pre paid our tips, just wanted to make sure we were taken care of). Only saw Michael three times during the week. Our ice bucket was NEVER empty. I swear if I got out of bed to go to the bathroom, the bed would be made up before I got back. The room itself was great. Three closets, all the usual amenities in the bathroom, two robes, two large beach towels and an unlocked refrigerator. After all the reviews I read regarding the bed, I was anxious to try it out. Slept like a baby every night, never once waking up with a back ache. Towel animals met us every night before bed time. We opted to do room service for breakfast, cereal, toast juice etc. Was great having an early breakfast on our balcony. We ate all evening meals in Truffles dining room. The supper club did not appeal to us. Our waiter was Widadi, (dadi) and his assistant was Sukantu, both from Indonesia. Great servers. Bar waitress was Sheila from the Philippines. The first night I ordered diet coke and a diet coke was waiting for me when we reached out table every evening. We had the upper dining area, looking down at the main seating area. Loved the high area. All the food was good and tastefully presented. The steaks were done perfectly as was the lobster and all dinners. The warm melting cake was okay, but rather sweet. All desserts were good. All the shows in the Follies theater were great, from the production numbers to the singers and comedians. Would see them all again. Shore Tours. Grand Cayman, did the Atlantis submarine, which took us down 100 feet, looking at reefs, WW II landing craft (sunk) scuba divers, barrel sponges. great tour, but not worth the $94.00 Per Person. Cozumel. Just walked around, an made the mistake of going to Margaritaville for lunch. Two cheeseburgers and two lemonades, $35.18 U.S. Belize, just walked around observing people and buying Tee shirts for grand kids. Isla Roatan. Got off the ship, walked about 200 yards into the shopping area, turned around and went back to the ship. Could not get past 6, 7 years old kids trying to sell you junk. Could not get past guys wanting to take you on tours. Back to the ship. We spent most of our time on deck, Lido and sun deck. We only saw about 25 kids on board, probably because school was still in session. The food at the food stations around Lido deck was very good and we never had a hard time finding clean tables to sit. Lounge chairs around the adult pool were always available. I would take the Legend anytime, and I look forward to going next year again
