We have cruised many times before and this one has to be one of the worst we have ever taken. We arrived in San Juan on Saturday and were bused to the ship after some delays. We just got to the ship in time to enjoy the lunch buffet before it closed. All luggage were carried to our cabin. The size of the cabin was disappointing. We acknowledge that cabins are not luxurious unless you book a suite but this cabin was the same size as most staterooms but with a balcony. The said balcony was fairly small and we really did not enjoy it that much but were a bit frustrated because you pay higher prices for such a stateroom but little benefits in addition such as canapes being served at 16:00 hrs. The first dinner was open seating which takes away some of the pleasure of cruise traveling as the best feeling comes from leaving at see and and enjoy the ship's rocking. The boat drill took place at 21:45 h. which is quite late since we left at 5:00 h. on that day. We finally left San Juan at 23:00 that evening. The first port of call was St-Marteen at 9:30 the following day. Small but charming island. The following ports of call, namely Dominica, Granada and Bonaire are almost identical. We felt like running a 100 meters dash to see as many ports of call as possible in as few days as possible. I acknowledge that some of these islands had to deal with hurricanes in the past years but they are too much of the same. The bus excursion ride through the mountains was somewhat pleasant at the beginning but became real tiring at the end. The last port of call was Aruba and probably the best one. The last day was a day at sea. Overall, the food was so-so in the dining room and that label is even generous. One of the best dinners was the one we took at the Normandie. Entertainment was again at the low scale of entertainment except basically for the last show aboard. On the positive side, service at all levels was excellent.

To conclude, the southern caribbean cruise provide by the Celebrity Summit was well below our expectations. Right from the embarkation on the bus with a waiting period way too long, to unsatisfied dining, to unappealing entertainment and to little interest in the ports of call, we definitely overpaid for that cruise. Lucky the nice weather accompanied us during the last five days of the cruise. We have taken Celebrity cruises before and were always happy until now. What a disappointment.
