I read with interest the reviews by others of the same cruise we took on the Westerdam leaving Florida on 16 December and I must ask where were the reviewers as they must have been on a different ship!

I should preface by saying that we've been on many crossings on Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2, but our cruising dates back to the MS Skyward in 1970, so we have been at this a long time. As they say this was not our first time at this rodeo!

That said, this cruise was barely passable in many ways. The biggest faults we can find are the time in ports was rushed and the atmosphere was absolutely too American and "family" for us. It was supposed to be Holland America but the only thing Dutch was the name. There was plenty of pizza but no Dutch food. Plenty of burgers and hot dogs, but only one night with lobster. We found none of the European touches we so adore on QM2 and QE2, and we mean even basics like good sausages at breakfast and sandwiches which were European style at the teas. Here the bread was the consistency of hamburger buns and even the one try the cooks made at Sauerbraten at lunch resulted in something closer to shoe leather than great beef! Ach Ja!
