Just returned from a very successful voyage. 11 days was very enjoyable on the Summit. This was our second time on Summit. Previous cruise was April 2003.
This was a new experience for us. Prior cruises did not permit travel a day before cruise to the port. This time was a first for us. We booked the Holiday Inn in Ft. Lauderdale for the night before our cruise. Unfortunately this we during spring break and the hotel was over run with "spring breakers". Was a little noisy to say the least.
Arrived at the pier on sailing day around 11:00AM. After checking in, we boarded almost immediately. Our cabin was not ready as yet so we went to the buffet for lunch. Around 1:00PM our cabin was ready. We checked it out and walked around the ship. Had lifeboat drill at 4:00PM. Sailaway at 4:30PM. We had arranged a get together with other cruise critics that we met on the internet at the Mast Bar during sailaway. Quite a few attended. We had another get together that the ship provided for us at Michaels Club later in the cruise. Cruise Director Don Fluke along with several of his staff including a ships photographer also were present. Coffee, danish, and other things were provided around 10:30AM at this get-to-gether. This was also well attended. Was able to put names to faces we met on internet.
