My wife and I have just returned from the Mexican Riviera Cruise on the Norwegian Star. We are Australians and this was our 5th cruise. 1st Cruise with NCL. I must say that this was our best cruise to date we have embarked upon. We arrived at LA the day prior to the cruise after a very long flight from Sydney. We stayed at a lovely hotel called the COAST HOTEL at Longbeach, California. It was a very nice hotel in a great location and we thought downtown Longbeach was very interesting. We visited the Queen Mary and generally had a good time prior to sailing out the following morning. The next morning after a nice breakfast at the hotel we arrived at San Pedro Pier to meet the ship at 1pm. Within 15 minutes from alighting from the taxi we were onboard the ship and went to our stateroom. We could not fault the organization for embarking the ship. Our stateroom was very nice, clean and tidy although a little small in size however it was comfortable for 2 persons. SHIP... We toured the ship and found the ship to be wonderful. It was very large, clean and well fitted out. I have read previous reviews about getting lost in the ship however we found the ship very easy to navigate. RESTAURANTS... We found all food outlets on the ship to be adequate to very good. VERSAILLES and AQUA were both excellent with very good service. CAGNEYS STEAK HOUSE we ate at one night was excellent and the best Fillet Mignon I have had for a long time. It was definitely worth the extra money. The buffet was good as was BLUE LAGOON. I can't really understand previous reviews from people with major issues concerning the food. I think some people have got to many high expectations about food and you must remember you are on a cruise liner and NOT a top notch restaurant in NEW YORK or somewhere... SHOWS... I thought all shows on the ship were excellent. The Jean Ryan Dancers were excellent as was the Second City. The only entertainer I thought was very ordinary to say the least was Peter SASSO a say so Comedian. In Cagney's Bar was a lady named Jana SEARLE who played an acoustic guitar and sang and she was excellent. My wife and I also enjoyed Al Ventura who sang and played guitar nightly in the Red Lion Pub. Overall the entertainment was good to excellent.

I must say with regret that we have been on 4 previous cruisers in Australia and the Caribbean and I thought Ricky the CRUISE DIRECTOR was probably the worst I have seen or been involved with. We both thought he was very boring and not talented at all. Having said that he tried his hardest but it didn't seem to work well. PORTS OF CALL.. All ports visited ACAPULCO, ZIU/IXTAPA, PUERTO VALLARTA and CABO we thought were fantastic. This was helped by the beautiful weather we had during the cruise. All in all would I cruise with NCL again. Well, definitely.. Don't believe all the negative reviews you read prior to going on this wonderful cruise and board the ship with a positive attitude and you will most definitely have a wonderful cruise vacation... Please don't hesitate to email me if you need any information on this cruise.
