We were satisfied with our cruise aboard Holland America Line (HAL) Veendam, with some reservations.

Due to technical difficulties with the shaft, the ship could only make about 15 knots. This resulted in two of four destination visits to be cancelled (Key West, & Cozumel). Many passengers were extremely upset, but we enjoyed our stops in Belize City, and Santo Tomas de Castilla (Guatemala).

We believe the crew were generally excellent, though we had some minor difficulty with the bar staff on two occasions, and a scarcity of bar staff in the pool area one evening. Also, the bar staff are rather stingy on drink measures. I think the room steward (Abdul) and our table server (Pras) were superior at every turn, real stand-outs; you will be well-treated should you be lucky enough to have them. We don't intend this as a slight to the other staff, just that those two stood out for us. The Lido buffet was always well-kept too.
