Our week on the Voyager was one of the best vacations we ever had. We did a few things differently and if anything we did can help you, then there is a purpose in writing this revue. Some of the things we didn't do were: eat in the dining room, attend the welcome back party, attend the honeymooners and anniversary party, see the parade or play bingo. These were our choices due to our tour schedule and our sleeping requirements. When we arrived in Barcelona the RCCL transfer team made the transition from the airport to the ship very smooth. Check in was easy and the Maitre D was available for any changes to our seating requests. We changed from 9:30 to 9:15 but as things turned out we never used the dining room. Our room was ready by 1:30 and we were able to take a nap before meeting with our fellow cruise critic members. The get together was a lot of fun and it was interesting to meet the people who were responsible for all the help we received preparing for this trip. Our meet and mingle had to end at 5:30 due to our required safety meeting. After the life vest demonstration we decided that we didn't want to wait until 9:30 to have dinner. We chose the Windjammer and this turned out to be the best surprise of the trip. The wait staff was lined up to greet us when we walked in. We had a table for two with a view of the harbor. When the ship pulled out of port we were able to watch the city lights fade away while we leisurely enjoyed our meal. The food presentation was beautiful. The amount and quality of entrees exceeded what was offered in the dining room. The best surprise was the strawberry and vanilla ice cream. Not to mention the many variety of pastries that were available. We purposefully chose the afternoon tour to Nice and Eze. I knew that we would be very tired the next day and it would also give the temperature some time to warm up. This was a good choice except for the fact that we were tied up in afternoon rush hour traffic and it took us an extra hour to get back to the ship. There is a Mac Donald's a block away from the bus stop and this came in handy because restrooms were very scarce. Eze has a special magical character and is a must see. The streets are too narrow to drive a car so they use donkeys to carry luggage to the hotel. There is also a nice store at the bottom of the hill to buy water to take back to the ship. All of our tours were through RCCL. We were happy with everything that was provided .The buses were new. The guides were very well informed and the subject matter took care of itself. In Rome the lunch provided by the ship was better than expected. Our tour in Pompeii was in the afternoon so I took a quick walk through Naples in the morning. Word of advice, don't walk in Naples. I still don't know how I made it back to the ship. Red does not mean stop, it means maybe. Palermo turned out to be interesting. There is an area off of Via Roma that is fascinating. There are fish markets, meat markets, Produce stands, and about a mile of venders. This turned out to be a nice surprise. Room service seemed to work out very well before our tours. If you want service before 7:00 be sure to circle it on your menu card. We even used the service to get coffee and rolls while we took our time to wake up on our free mornings. Our room attendant left a little bit to be desired. He eventually got the job done but his attitude was not very enjoyable. Our waiter in the windjammer was exactly the opposite and we were disappointed that we could not give our prepaid gratuities to him. He made our meals very enjoyable and we made sure to look him up before we left the ship. Our towels never looked like they had been bleached. When we asked about this we were told that it was a European water problem. Funny, the sheets were always white. By using the Windjammer for our meals we were able to take in some of the production events. Music in Motion, Flamenco Dancing and the Ice Show were some of the best performances we have seen in three cruises. In closing, some of the things that I worried and fretted about before we sailed seemed to take care of themselves. All the energy that I used trying to make things happen was really unnecessary and every thing more than likely would have happened anyway.
