We traveled with 8 other family members, and the cruise was great. We had several issues that we had to deal with along the way, but being together was our main focus. Getting onboard - Carnival had told us that since we were traveling with Plat cruisers (my parents) that we could check in with them. In the VIP room they made us feel like crap, sent us out to join the other long lines. Room was supposed to be ready at 1:30, but at 1:45, we had to enter the closed doors (weren't locked) and went to our room anyway. Our room steward was terrible, room never really "cleaned", and later on during the cruise I had to make 3 phone calls to get toilet paper. Sheets were not washed all week, and robes hanging in the closet had not been cleaned after the last cruise. Also, had to hunt him down all week begging for beach towels. If you are planning on booking a cruise on the Triumph, great, but save your money and don't book a balcony room. A seven day cruise, we were not allowed on our balcony 3 1/2 of the days due to "routine cleaning". Not only could you not use your balcony, but you had to remove any personal items (swimsuits, beach shoes, etc), keep your curtains closed all the way and lock your balcony doors. We have saved for a long time to be able to afford a balcony, so this was just really a slap in the face. Our dining room waiter, Weixen ( or something like that), was the absolute best waiter we (and everyone in my party agreed) had ever had. We nicknamed him "Hong Kong", and he was the best! Whenever some of us couldn't make it to dinner, he always offered plates to be delivered to us. Carnival needs to keep this one, because he represents what cruising is all about! Shore excursions were okay, we enjoyed Half Moon Cay (geez, hard to find bathrooms), and the lunch is very good. St. Thomas is great, we went to the beach. If you choose Eastern, not a lot of shopping except for jewelry. Grand Turk is awesome if you go to Jimmy Buffett's, but other than that it is a pretty empty port. The Triumph is a beautiful ship, but it seriously needs to be put in dry dock for a few months and upgrade its furnishings. Carpets are worn, furniture in the public areas are cracking, and it just needs to be fixed. The staff in the dining room was great, but we certainly could have done better taking care of our own room (which we had to do several days). On the other hand, we found deck chairs when we needed them, found bar service to be exceptional, and never went hungry. For our next cruise, however, we're doing the Princess thing. Just can't beat Movies under the Stars.
