All I can say about the Norwegian Star, is "WOW" !!! What a ship & crew!!! My husband and I traveled to Los Angeles on Sunday. We booked a room at the Super 8 motel in north Hollywood. It was a real nice room( just the basic room) but very reasonable rates. We enjoyed Sunday, Monday & Tuesday morning site seeing around LA. We enjoyed it very much. We rented a car from Fox car rental at LAX. Very nice people and very reasonable rates. A tip if you are not familiar with LA rent a GPS with your car for $9.00. It is well worth it. All you do is type the address of where you are traveling to and you can't get lost. We visited the welcome center first thing. Got a book on LA and was off. The GPS is well worth the money. On Tuesday morning we returned our rental car to Fox at LAX. Took the shuttle to the pier. (Tip... use blue van shuttle $16.00 per person 1-800-bluevan) Even with the long lines to check luggage and to register we were still on the ship in less than 30 minutes. The first thing I noticed was how friendly all the crew were. They were all just great. From our room stewards to everyone I meet working on the NCL Star. Our room was great plenty of storage space. A little smaller than we were use to but still plenty of room for two people that was hardly ever in the room. Very nice bathrooms on this ship, even sliding doors on the shower. We were on the 11th floor and was never bothered by any noise from the 12th deck activities. We took in most shows while on the ship. The magic show with Shawn Farquar was great. He is so much fun. I believe he would of been great comedian also. A real barrel of laughs. We also saw the comedian Peter Sasso. He was ok, but not as funny as Shawn Faquar. We went to the newly weds and not so newly weds show. It was funny. We saw liar, liar. It was the best show of the cruise. But we had to leave and miss the ending because of dinner reservations. I was so disappointed, so was my husband. We also saw a few minutes of the ship & males show. It was funny what I saw of it. My husbands only comment was why they couldn't of did a show with the ships females?? We did miss the passengers talent show which I always enjoy. But some how we missed it on this cruise. This ship was beautiful. Everything was so clean and polished. The crew were always cleaning and polishing things. They took real good care of everyone I guess because this is the first cruise I have taken that I heard no one complain. Everyone I spoke with was having a great time and said it was the best service they had ever received also. The captain (Captain Lars) was a very fine captain & a very nice man. The cruise director Ricky made the sea days very fun and had great entertainment during the whole cruise. We ate in most of the restaurants. They were all great. The only one we did not try was the Italian, the Tex Mex, & Aqua. But all the rest had great food, great service, and good size portions. A few things I would really recommend are the Bananas Foster at Cagney's Steakhouse, The mussels at Le Bistro, the wings and potato skins at The Blue Lagoon. Those are the things I really enjoyed. But all food was superb!!! We only played played bingo the last days of this cruise. Usually we play every game but there was just to much other stuff to do on this ship. But I must say the times we played the prices was very reasonable. The Casino on this ship was the looses I have every been in or else I had a streak of good luck like never before. I played the monte carlo slot and won everytime I put money in it. Our first port was Acapulco. I was not really impressed. We saw the cliff divers and all around town. To me it was old and dirty. Second port Ixtapa. It was ok. I believe we just made a poor excursion choice. I believe we would of enjoyed it more if we had of did the town on our own. We choose the private island tour and it was not what we expected. Third was Puerto Vallarta. We loves it here. Very pretty, nice water here. We enjoyed it alot. Last was Cabo San Lucas also one of our favorite places. We did lovers beach. It was beautiful there. The arches was very pretty. We saw the sealions. The beach was beautiful and the water was clear blue. Did not want to leave. The only thing we were disappointed with in Cabo was, we had read that Cabo Wabo was a nice place to go for drinks and to eat. But to us it was a disappointment. We paid $50 dollars for one mixed drink, one coke and two nacho's. And the nacho were not worth eating. We left them on the plates. The last sea day we just enjoyed what the ship had to offer. We hated getting off. I would definitely do this cruise again. Or recommend it to anyone. After disembarking the ship we picked up our rental car at Fox LAX and headed out for more site seeing. We visited the Queen Mary. Did all the tours they offered. It was very nice but a lot of walking and stair climbing. Then we headed to Long Beach. It is very nice there. The beaches are very pretty. The people very nice. We went to try a small pizza place we had saw in the Long Beach travel book. New Yorks Upper Crust pizza. "WOW". What great pizza. By the slice or whole pie. We chose by the slice since my husband and I like different toppings. If you get a chance make the drive it was well worth it. Well I hope this review helps you decide on this ship. You will not be disappointed. And will I sail with NCL again??? Yes already booking a future cruise for Hawaii.
