Just returned from the NCL Spirit. 6 night out of NYC. It was a nice cruise but nothing too memorable. Having this been my 24th cruise, I know what to expect and not what to expect on a cruise. We actually sailed without a cruise director and not much activity was provided. Embarkation in NYC went 15-20 minutes. Cabin was ready about 1:30. Nice cabin with limited amenities. Muster drill is somewhat optional. Did not see my cabin attendant until 8PM that night. Worked like a stealth. First night we tried the sushi restaurant for the $15 upcharge per person. It was ok. Limited menu as expected and quality was about even with supermarket sushi. Waitress was coy about additional tipping at the upgrade restaurants. She stated it was not included in the service charge, but the bill stated that it was. Next day was a sea day on the way to Halifax. It was chilly and blustery. The ship does not have any enclosed pools. So sea day was sleep and eat day. Arrived in Halifax and we rented a car to see foliage changes. Drove to Peggys Cove and was disappointed with the venue. Alot of cold shivering tourists walking around. Drove to Lunenberg and it was quiet. Returned to ship. Not much to do in the port. Did not see many people returning with any purchases. Next day was St. Johns' New Brunswick. Quaint area with some charm.Try Lords Lobster Shop in the Market. Best Lobster Roll for all of $8. Boston was fun. We took a taxi into Quincy Market for $8 rather than the ship shuttle. This was cheaper, easier and faster. Great city to explore but not enough time. Next day was Marthas Vineyard. Problem existed that many things were already closed for the season. Returned to NY the next day. Ship Issues: poor non attentive service in all areas. There is no incentive for the crew to work. They do provide their job description and no more. They get the tips irregardless. Raffles buffet food was ok. Presentation was poor. The buffet was not maintained and was sloppy. Plates were chipped and silverware had dried on food. Skip the La Trattoria Italian restaurant. Service was horrible, and the food was fair at best. Spa was ok but the receptionist was continually nasty and cold to all. Also beware the gangways are not equipped for physically challenged passengers. They were quite steep and no crew help to the elderly. One plus was the upgraded Steak House Clancy's.$20 per person well worth it. Just beware there is an additional surcharge of $10 for lobster. It is kind of nickel and diming. Overall, it was an ok experience. Before we left the ship, we took a good look around because we knew we would never see this place again......
