We sailed on the Norwegian Spirit out of New York City in September on the Canada New England Destination. There were three adults in our group. We had sailed with Norwegian about two years ago. We found this to be an excellent experience and a great vacation. We traveled to New York City a day early and stayed in Brooklyn. With any potential travel problems, we wanted to play it safe. We enjoyed the time touring the city. We arrived at the port about noon on Sunday. As Lattitude Members, we were on the ship within 15 minutes with a truly problem free process. We proceeded to Windows and had a very good lunch. We then looked around the ship. I had read some of the Reviews and was looking for any problems. We found none. This ship is well maintained. We did the lifeboat drill which went smoothly. We were very pleased with our cabin and the balcony was WELL worth the extra cost! No more bargain bottom cabins for us! The cabin was clean, quiet and the bathroom was great. The shower is full size! As with most cruises, there are many on board activities and we took in some. Try to catch the Alambre Trio. They are GREAT! On Monday, we took it easy. We were at sea all day, so we had a chance to unwind. The crew and staff could not have been nicer. We arrived in Halifax on Tuesday. We were off the ship promptly. The shore excursion was as expected. Nothing great, but we did get to see the town and the area. We did alittle shopping and were back on the ship. We snacked in Raffles which is OK. Not bad as we had heard. It is about like a Golden Corral. Alot of ok food. We tried the Garden Room for dinner. Same menu as Windows. This restaurant is alittle more intimate, but close to Windows. We liked Windows best. We had heard about small portions. We found the portions to be fine. If you left this cruise hungry, it was your own fault! With all of the food available, you can always get something to eat. We found the food to be more memorable on our previous Norwegian Cruise, but this food was good. We went to the Show each evening. Nothing great here, but ok. Julie seemed to do a great job. Alot of energy! They do like to take your picture, but you are not obligated to purchase them. We bought a couple and that was that. The roaming wait staff do push the drinks in the lounges and shows, but again, they do not go overboard. A simple "no thanks" takes care of it. The Casino looked ok, but we just walked thru it. The passengers on this cruise were older, for the most part. None of the reviewer's complains as on the Caribbean itinerary. We did not see any "Rock & Roll Boose Cruisers" here. Wednesday we anchored at Bar Harbor. It was very foggy, but no problem. It was gone by noon. We were tendered to shore quickly. Tour was good. A Princess ship traveling along with us did not allow their passengers to leave the ship here, due to the fog. We saw the island and had a very good time. Not much Fall Foliage, but the season was late. Thursday we docked in Boston which was good. Friday was Martha's Vineyard, where we tendered, which we enjoyed the most. Very pretty place. Again, this was an excellent cruise and we had a great time. We docked back in New York City at 8:00AM on Saturday and were off the ship by 10:00. It was the easiest disembarkation we have had. All in all this was truly a stress free vacation. This is a beautiful ship and Norwegian knows how to take care of it's guests. We will cruise with them again. There Freestyle Cruising concept is just what we like.
