We and another couple had booked this cruise for the itinerary, and we had gotten a very good deal on 2 aft penthouse suites (9212 and 9710). We booked our own precruise and postcruise hotels in NYC (Westin Times Square) which worked out well. Embarkations took less time than the cab ride from 43rd and 8th Avenue. Lisa, the Concierge, had us aboard with reservations for specialty restaurants in a wink, before 12 noon. Our rooms were not available, so we went to Windows (although everyone tried to get us to Raffles). The meal and service was marvelous with a table right next to the aft windows. Around 2:00pm we went to our rooms and were thrilled with the suites. Flowers and a fruit basket were there (and this was updated everyday from a different member of the ship's staff). The jacuzzi tub and separate shower, both open through a picture window to the sea, were worth the price of admission. The bed was comfortable, and the whole suite was spacious. The aft balcony is wonderful - no wind. So, you can really enjoy the balcony in weather conditions. We had every breakfast served in our room by Lucky and Gary, our butlers. We tried ordering things that were not on the menu, and everytime they arrived as requested. Actually, we never asked anything of Lucky, Gary, or Lisa that didn't happen nearly instantly. Plus, several times each day they just showed up to ensure we were satisfied. We took NCL excursions in Halifax, Bar Harbor, Boston, and Martha's Vineyard. We would not do it again. A rental car would have allowed much better views of the marvelous ports and surroundings. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and we would recommend this itinerary to everyone. We could spend a lot of time at each of those stops. Entertainment was excellent - the show team did great work - what energy. Food: We had very good meals in Windows and the Garden. There was always something on the menu we wanted. Service was slow on Lobster night in Windows, but our waiter worked extremely hard with as many people that were there. Our dinner in Le Bistro was marvelous, with a wait team that was hilarious. The only bad meal was in Cagney's. Our wives ordered lobster which came mushy - the waiter and Chef didn't understand what was wrong. However, the hostess (who spoke better English) defused the situation and things were at least handled smoothly from there on. Overall, we were pleased with food and service in all the restaurants including Raffles. Something is always available that you will like. Debarkation: Smoother than silk. NCL knows how to do it. Again, though, Lisa came by the night before to ensure everything would go smoothly. Overall, I would highly recognize this itinerary and this ship.
